Question about 2008 Mercury Mariner
Just breaking out of winter storage and my I/O outdriver will only go up 1/3 of the way and then the motor clicks off automatically - it will go back down and then back up but continues to only raise several inches. I tried to manully assist but the motor still stops Th usual operation is the motor will continue to run even after thr outdrive is all the way up or down. My Boat is a 1999 Lund with the Mercruiser 4.3 Liter V6
There is a 'trailer' or some such labeled switch (usually on the side of the throttle) which you need to push in order for the motor to go all the way up. It stops at 1/3 because it thinks it's in the water. If you push that switch with no better result, then a related wire may be broken or disconnected.

It sounds like the limit switch thinks the outdrive is all the way up or that it is in gear.

Sounds like the trailer switch is not functioning properly. It may need to be replaced but the wiring should be checked first to make sure it is not damaged or cut somewhere.
