This is a 7.3 I assume... if so then you most likely have an injector with a weak pintle spring. This is the spring inside the injector that forces the fuel to atomize when the plunger is pushed down by high oil pressure.
You can isolate this by a temperature differential reading on the exhaust manifold surface directly at the head at each cylinder. If you do not posess a tool for this then a trip to the dealer is needed so they can electronically short each injector until they find the one that is causing the problem.

Where and how to change fuel filter on 1996 Ford F350 7.3 turbo disel truck? Is there more than one fuel filter?

Please don't forget to rate!!!!

Diesel Engines The 6.9L and 7.3L diesel engines use a one-piece spin-on fuel filter. Do not add fuel to the new fuel filter. Allow the engine to draw fuel through the filter.
  1. Remove the spin-on filter by unscrewing it counterclockwise with your hands or a strap wrench.
  2. Clean the filter mounting surface.
  3. Coat the gasket or the replacement filter with clean diesel fuel. This helps ensure a good seal.
  4. Tighten the filter by hand until the gasket touches the filter mounting surface.
  5. Tighten the filter an additional 1⁄2 turn. NOTE: After changing the fuel filter, the engine will purge the trapped air as it runs. The engine may run roughly and smoke excessively until the air is cleared from the system.

Ford-F350 7.3 turbo sluggish when you accelerate

i dont know about the turbo going bad,but i do know that ive seen 7.3 diesel have bad injectors, usually 2 at a time, check for fuel at the injector which can get messy so wear protective gear such as goggles and gloves, while running crack open the fuel line at the injector to see if there is fuel,it should run rough which is good on the working cylinders,if it doesnt change then maybe a bad injector,or not enough fuel pressure at that injector.injection pump issues are another thing, but most likely its an injector.
