Question about 2005 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

Got my stereo stolen out of my 2005 Grand Am, and now neither my turn signals or my hazard lights work. I looked for torn or pulled out wires, but the only four that were loose were all attached to a unit beneath the console that claimed it was for the door chime... The fuses seem fine, and I am kinda lost as to why the signals aren't working.

No, I wish... they simply aren't working. I had thought the same thing... but turned them on, walked around te car.. and no lights.

by test light, do you mean a multitester? I have one of the probe style, yes... includes resistance, capacitance, voltmeter, etc... if you mean something else, like a trouble code reader or a timing light, then, no... dont have one.

As for the button, yes, the turn signal switch and the hazard switch both seem to actuate.. just the lights dont work. Again, they worked literally the day before the stereo was ripped off... so I am currently assuming that it had something to do with that... the ceter of the center console was hanging, but the only wires I found loose, so far, were for the dinger.

The only thing that should not be working would be the audible turn signal / hazard signal sound. When the turn signals are activated, the audio (radio) system generates a clicking sound that indicates the signals are working.
When the radio is missing, no sound is generated.
Are your turn signals working outside, but no sound or are the signals not working at all.
Let me know.

The "dinger" or chime module is located under the dash. Were is your hazard switch located, on the dash or in the steering column.

It should be in and above your radio opening. The wire colors to the switch are black, orange, pink, purple, dk blue, lt blue, and gray. Make sure you have voltage on the orange and pink wire with the key in the run position. Make sure you are showing continuity to ground on the black wire with the key in the off/lock position.

Let me know what you find.

Brake light/turn sigs dont work. But lights are on?

Ok, GM had a problem with their hazard light switches in the years of around 2001-2005. These caused some bizarre workings concerning the hazards, lights, turn signals, etc. The circuits overlap, and when the switch malfunctions, it makes for some odd happenings. Normally, when the hazards are on, they cancel out the brake lights and the turn signals, since they use the same circuits. The normal taillights use a different filament in the same bulb, which is why they light up brighter when you press the brakes. The aftermarket has come up with replacement switches in response to these inherent problems, so do not get your switch from GM. Places like will sell these, though not necessarily this place, it's just the one I use. Usually, GM put these in the steering column, so replacement can be tricky for the average person, as it involves taking apart some of the steering column.

Turn signals, hazards not working

Mine just went out this past week and found the flasher/hazard fuse inside the glove compartment under the plate with the pull cord to access. The 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo AWD part# on the fuse and called to confirm with a Jeep dealer is:
56007243 and appx. 44.00 from the dealer, may be able to get from an auto store as well.

Good luck if it is the fuse box you were looking for.
