Question about Saturn SL2

1 Answer

Difficult to start

My 2002 saturn sl2 is suddenly giving me trouble. 150M miles on it. it starts fine first thing when the engine is cold in the morning, although it is a bit sluggish. i drive an hour to work, leave it parked. by lunchtime, it can be more sluggish. if i go to a store, park it, and then start it back up 30-60 minutes later, it is a chore to start. wants to start, chugs, dies, after 6-8 tries, i can get it started, but plenty of gas spent in the process. ... not the starter or the battery. we've replaced spark plugs and wires, added gas treatment. my fellow is thinking electronic ignition, and we've looked online for the model and see there is a rotor, he's thinking of replacing. any ideas or suggestions? thanks so much!

not a solution ... but my fellow says i need to say that ... once the engine warms up, that is when i experience the problem of restarting it.

If you have not changed the fuel filter, that may be your problem. Try changing the fuel filter once a year to keep your fuel system clean and running right.
Hope this helps and good luck.

What oil should i use for my 96 saturn sl2

The engine on a 1996 Saturn SL uses SAE 5w-30 engine oil. The recommended oil-change interval for this engine is every 3,000 miles or three months, whichever comes sooner.

Saturn '99 SL2 erratic tickover on idle

Idle problem most likey a Coolant Temp sensor & connector.Cam covers very common to leak around the sides & down into the spark plug holes. Also all saturn s-series 1.9 engine consume oil. Most 1qt. per 1500 miles some more some less.Service Engine Lamp has nothing to do with regular maintenance. It's a malfunction indicator lamp.If it's on there is Trouble codes stored in the ECM.Auto zone free scan with printout.Hope that helps
