Message: "POWER STEERING"

This message appears on the panel board of our Chevrolet Cobalt 2005 automatic. We don't know what is the problem. Is it dangerous? Is it expensive to repair? Thank for your interest.

i had this problem alot! and it seemed that the driver side running light kept blowing out. since there is not power steering fluid used in the cobolt (it's all electric) i thought there might be a short somewhere. changed the bulb and both have been working fine ever since. STRANGE!!!!

This is a major problem and I too have reported the issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Please take the time and do the same. They can be contacted online at safercar.gov or BY PHONE: Call the Hotline, Monday-Friday 8am to 8pm at (888) 327-4236 , TTY:(800) 424-9153.
Sep 04, 2009 If you read and google you will find over 200 more complaints. This is an issue only GM/Chevy can fix. Report it to www.safercar.gov and the Department of Consumer Affairs. I have been battling this issue for 2 months.

Where is a power steering pump located on a 4 cylinder chevy cobalt ls

Your Cobalt is not equiooed with a Power Steering Pump. It has electric power steering. See the description below.

Power Steering - System Description and Operation
The electric power steering (EPS) system reduces the amount of effort needed to steer the vehicle. The system uses the body control module (BCM), power steering control module (PSCM), torque sensor, discrete battery voltage supply circuit, EPS motor, serial data bus, and the instrument panel cluster (IPC) message center to perform the system functions. The PSCM, torque sensor, not the EPS motor are serviced separately from each other or from the steering column. Any EPS components diagnosed to be malfunctioning requires replacement of the steering column assembly, also known as the EPS assembly.

Power steering message comes on if I turn the car off it goes off and is easy to drive again

There is something wrong with the elctronics of the steering. There are really only two componets. There is a computor and there is a motor in the steering colume. Either one of these are bad. With out a code to go by I would take a guess with the motor. That is the more common one to go bad. But like I said thats a guess with out knowing the code.

2005 Chevy Cobalt- power steering message, check engine light on-

I too had this problem, and it was finally resolved after tracing the wires from the BCM to the steering column. A few of the wires needed to be repaired and repositioned.
