I have a 1996 suzuki wagon r , and changed the distributor /cam gasket , during install I moved the distributor wheel so it's out of do I re align it?

Bring the #1 cylinder up to top dead center (TDC), to determine this remove the #1 plug, then rotate the engine with a large ratchet on the crank pulley and feel for air pressure in the cylinder plug hole, as the pressure increase watch the marks on the crank pulley, when you see TDC marking stop, at this point remove the distributor and align the distributor rotor with the distributor cap contact for #1 spark plug wire, and tighten it down. After that start engine and perform final timing set up with a timing light.

Firing order is 1 3 4 2. Distributor rotor turns counter-clockwise.

Standing in front of car looking at engine, number one cylinder tower is in the 4 o'clock position, number 3 cylinder tower is at the two o'clock position, number 4 cylinder is at 10 o'clock, and number two cylinder tower is at the 8 o'clock position.

I just put in a new distributor but can't find the timing marks I need to set it properly. Can you tell me what they are or where?

Basically, you need to get the #1 piston to TDC on it's compression stroke. If you set it there before removing the distributor and didn't turn the crank it should still be there. If not, you have the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley to help. When the TDC mark is aligned you are either at the top of compression or top of exhaust stroke. You can tell the difference by taking the #1 plug out and putting your thumb over the hole while cranking the engine. The pressure will push your thumb off on the compression stroke. After getting the engine set right, next, you will drop the distributor in and out until the rotor is pointing to the #1 terminal. It will turn as you drop it into the gear--that's why I say in and out, as it sometime takes a few tries to get it right. When you think you have it right, keep in mind that the actual ignition timing will be advanced, so the rotor actually needs to be at the terminal ahead of TDC. The actual timing values are as follows, with a jumper in the timing connector:
All Models Except Wagon-16-20° BTDC 675-750 rpm
Wagon Models Except 1988 4WD-16-20° BTDC 700-800 rpm

see figures and let me know if you have questions.
