Hi there,

Normally your battery should be kept fully charged by your alternator, but if the car is not running your alternator cannot charge your battery. There are several other ways to charge your now-dead battery.

  1. Pull an extension cord out (if necessary) to your car and plug it into your home ca battery charger.
  2. Connect the charger's cables to your car's battery terminals.
  3. Plug the extension cord into an outlet and let the battery charge.
  4. Start your car.
  5. Unplug your battery charger, then remove the cables from your cars battery and put the charger away.

My 2004 BMW 745 has been sitting in my carport after I had an in home accident,The battery is dead.I got an electrical charger but do not know how to re charge. Some say undr the hood.Others say trhrough...

The jumper cable connection point under the hood is directly connected to the battery. If you are not familiar with charging batteries, it is much better that you connect your charger under the hood.
Leave the ignition turned off. Connect the positive (red) clamp to the jumper cable connector under the hood. Connect the negative (black) clamp to a bare metal ground point such as a bolt or lifting lug on the engine. Then plug in and turn on the charger. Let it charge for several hours before trying to start the car.
If this is the original battery, it likely won't ever really work well again. Maintenance free batteries do not respond well to being completely discharged, and at 7+ years of age, it is due for replacement anyway. I had to replace the battery in my wife's 2004 BMW 330 about four months ago, and it had never been allowed to go dead,

Hello mel
you need to charge you Porsche trough your cigarette lighter socket.
There is a tool with two male connectors which one you plug into the cig.lighter socket and the other to your battery jumper if you have one.
This is the easy way to get ot the trunk. The cable you can get in any autoparts stores.

Hello. We have an 03 Mitsubishi Galant. We need to identify the fusable link at battery positive cable. Please identify its uses and replacement. Thanks DC

The fuse built into the positive battery cable is the alternator fuse. If it blows your battery will go dead.Your charge light will not come on, your alternator and battery will be operating perfectly but since your battery is not charging your car will go until the battery id dead and just stop. The fuse is the big square part of the clamp and simply unbolts from the actual clamp. It is a dealer only part that runs between $10 and $20 depending on where you buy it. When ever you work under the hood around your alternator always take your negative battery cable off so so do not blow this expensive fuse.

My clock and radio are suddenly not working in my 2003 grand am

Your Vehicle has two fuse boxes one fuse box under the hood and one inside the vehicle. Check your owner’s manual and you should find the fuse panel at the side of driver’s dash console. Look at the fuse schematics for the fuse description radio then remove that fuse for a visual inspection. If it is good it could be an internal radio problem. However, If the battery jumper cables were hooked up incorrectly it may have damaged a battery cell or the regulator of the alternator and I would have her take it to NAPA, O’Reilly, or Auto Zone to have a free battery and charging system test.

you need to check for a bad conection at the battery cables. both ends Check the wires on the starter. clean the battery post. Give the battery a good charge you will be back on the road. hope this helps PS You can get the battery charged and tested free at auto-zone.

That's a good one. Follow the cable. Most of the cases is under the hood near cabin wall.

Fan keeps running after engine is shut off

It is normal for the fan to run when engine is off. Engine temps actually rise when the engine is shut off, the heat will rise through the engine compartment. So a Coolant temp sensor controls when the fan shuts on and off, obviously based on the temps of the anti-freeze. The fans are a high draw item, but It would take much longer than an hour breakfast for the battery to run dead. I would check out the battery and charging system first. Is the CEL on? Let me know and we will trouble shoot from there. Thank you for using

S class

you can jump directly to the battery. the procedure for doing this is as follows connect the positive cable to the dead vehicle(yours) then connect the ground cable either to the battery or to the engine block. then conect the positve cable to the jump vehicle then connect the ground. start the jump vehicle and rev engine to 1500-2000 rpm for 2 minutes. let vehicle idle for 5 minutes. then try and start dead vehicle. sometimes the whole thing takes 10 to 15 minutes to be successfull. please rate the solution.........thanks
