Chek exhaust system mufflers , catalytic convertor. When car is COLD take a rubber mallet and smack these items. Listen for the rattling noise. Hope this helps

did they do an exhaust back pressure test to diagnose a plugged catalytic. if they did then replace it as there is no repair for this. the rattling you hear is the catalyst has come apart and is rattling inside the shell.

Pontiac Grand Am rattling noise iN BACK when driving

On that particular vehicle, and is very common, the rear upper strut mount rubbers wear out and cause a rattling noise. The noise is influenced by road conditions and speed and will vary in noise intensity.

Rattle from car at 1900revs only when in gear

moving noise is very hard to find.

could well be exhaust shields,
did you take a rubber mallet and tap the parts (exh, end to end?)
bang ,rattle, bang , repeat
seen many bad CAT (brick inside loose) rattle. hit it. bingo. there you go.

i also jam objects in cat shelds to stop them for making noise.
just for temporary to find source.

Rattle noice engine around the calelitic converter. rattle noice when starting car up when cold. poor gas mileage.

Sounds like you may have a exhaust loose or either the cat converter is stopping up. Some of these have baffles inside which will break loose and cause a rattling noise. When the engine is cold, start the vehicle and crawl under and hold the converter with your hand and even the exhaust to see if any pressure will stop the or alter the noise. Careful it don't take long for the exhaust to heat up. If these baffles are broke inside, it can cause the converter to become stopped up and rattle, this will also give an engine false info when it comes to the fuel and air ratio mixture. Not going to far into it, so i don't confuse you. Good Luck
