Question about 2000 Dodge Durango

2000 durango 4.7 v8 tranny slip or something. Plzz help!!!

Just bought a 2000 dodge durango 4.7l v8. Most of the time it drives fine but once i have been driving for a while the tranny will act up. When i slow down to a stop you can hear a loud jolt in downshifting. After that happens it will usually not shift up well for a few stops. Also while im going a constant speed it sometimes will seem as if i pushed in a clutch briefly. ie the rpms surge a bit and it feels like it momentarily shifts out of gear. I added some stop leak for the bands and i think it helped. the fluid levels are good. Heard something about a "transmission sensor" and a "speed sensor"?? what could it be?? really cant afford a new transmission since i just bought it.

Is there a reason that it would only do it occasionally? So the additive wont help "tighten the bands"? I cant afford to do anything else to it until i get paid again a week from tomorrow! so frustrating buying something that looks so nice, has a clean history and then this.

Ok so i did that except for disconnecting the battery. The place i took it to did a 36 quart flush and said the fluid smelled burnt and was almost black. It drives way better for the most part but when i first start it up and the tranny is cold it drives sloppy. Once its warmed up there arent really any problems. Will disconnecting the battery make a difference? Any ideas?

First thing you want to do, is get all that additive stuff out of there & get new filter & proper fluid in there. Mopar ATF 4. then disconnect battery for minute or 2 & start fresh as far as storing trouble codes goes. Chrysler transmissions don't react well to improper fluids or additives. If it starts to act up again, or check engine light comes on, have it scanned for codes at Autozone, or Pep boys & see what codes if any, come up. Don't prolong any transmission problem, as it will only cost you more in the end, if you don't take care of it right away.

You might be able to get a free scan done at autozone or pep boys, that might turn up something. It's worth a try. Do yourself a favor & check out (allpar.com) , you may find similar symptoms on there too.

The codes need to be erased, as well as any software updates to transmission need to be loaded. Unfortunately a trip to dealer may be your best bet in this case, but call ahead, give them the make, model , year , engine etc, or just give them your vin, and ask how much for a scan & any updates loaded. At least then you'll know what your up against. Remember, if they try to talk you in to a big dollar repair while your there, all you have to say is no, not right now.

2004 Durango dies and shifts weird

I will try to help..ihave a 2000 dodge durango with the 4.7 v8..My trans started shifting funny and the rpm's would go up to 2000+rpm when i was driving, which means i was getting really crappy gas mileage at 40mph..took it to shop, engine light on,put it on machine to diagnose..got a generic p0700 code plus a couple others..code basically says tranny is fn up..
Try this a cheap fix first that worked for me..on the transmission, driver side there are two sensors..input/output transmission speed sensors..to be exact..they send info to computer to regulate shift points in trans..upshift and downshift..replace them both although one may be the culprit..cost at the dealer here in Delaware was $40.72 for one..there is one bolt(8mm)and one electrical connection to each..time to replace both about 15minutes you don't even have to jack up truck but you will have to get underneath.

Hope this helps and good luck..if you change them and find the tranny shifting properly..cycling the on and off switch will eventually turn off the engine light..just drive it normally i mean..go here shut it off..get back in start it up and go..it will go out..good luck

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9L with auto

has anybody checked to see if any wires were pinched in the bell housing. this is something that the people who installed the transmission should have addressed. the rebuilt trans. should have come with a new torque convertor. did it? youre heading in the right direction though.

What kind of tranny will work to replace mine?

Yes. They should both be 46RE transmissions and the bolt patterns and the plugs should be the same.

if i am not mistaken the fuel filter is built into the fuel pump. which requires you to drop the tank and replace both.

2001 dodge durango v8 5.9 trans won't shift unless i downshift

I have a 2000, there is a speed sensor located in top of the rear axel and I believe another on the tranny housing. Try the rear axel first.
