You need to remove the splash cover directly under the engine to expose the oil filter. It is located at the front to the motor below the timing cover.
The oil capacity with a filter change is 4.2 quarts.
Subaru recommends a SAE 5W-30 oil
You can run a good quality Castrol GTX
Or a synthetic (Mobil 1) is as good as any.
NOTE: Don't skimp on the filter. Buy a quality 1.
Although I am a true believer in Amsoil which is what I use in my Nissan 300Z road race cars.
If I can help you out any where else, feel free to ask.

Subaru oil filter's are on the driver's side front of the engine just back from the t/belt cover.drop the splash gard off the bottom of the car and you will find the oil filter no problem.(rub some oil on the o'ring on the new oil filter before refiting)happy day's.

How to change engine oil in subaru wrx

First off before you do anything locate and know where your oil pan is and your oil filter. Your pan will be accessed from under the car and will have about a 9/16 bolt on it. That is your oil pan drain. Find your filter which will be most likely on the front right of the engine. Get a pan under the oil pan plug, take off your oil cap in the engine, and unscrew the drain plug. As it is draining take off your oil filter with a filter wrench. You will most likely want something to set the filter in when you loosen it (it is full so keep it upright as possible) Let it drain until all is out, replace the filter, put the plug back in and fill with the recommended amount of oil. Turn it on for about 15 seconds and then off. Check for leaks at the plug and filter and tighten if needed. The filter does not get "cranked down". Don't forget to put your cap back on the top side and you are done. Before you close the hood check to make sure the oil level is in operating range marked on the stick.

I CHANGED MY OIL ON A 2008 WRX AND HAD FUEL IN THE OIL ,WHY? IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS EXCESSIVE TO ME BUT NOT SURE ,NEVER OWNED A TURBO BEFORE.CHANGED THE OIL AT 5000 AND THE CAR HAS 46000 MILES

just to be safe get it to a subaru dealer and get it checked on the diagnostics computer,if too much fuel is going in they can adjust it for max power/economy.depending on what YOU want.(the ignition map is adjustable, but only by subaru)also this engine demands an oil/filter change at 5k intervals, using full synthetic oil.(subaru use 10/40,in Europe/Japan)

I bought a Subaru Impreza STI 2009 model .. What kind of the oil used in this car and is it Syntihtic oil?

i have an 05 sti. its the same motor as the 09. you definitley want to use a high quality full synthetic oil 5w-30. check the level often because it is normal for this car to burn a little oil do to the turbo. especially if you start making performance mods.
