Question about 1996 Pontiac Firebird
My brake lights weren't working on one side. replaced all bulbs, now it works if the lights are off, if i turn on the lights they don't work, actually they seem to get a slight bit dimmer. also the blinker on the same side doesn't blink. just lights up..

If you can turn the blinker on left or right and the light comes on but doesn't blink......Open the drivers door, there is a fuse box, On the side of the dash.. The relay willl be a small silver canister looking relay in with the fuses.. put your finger on it and turn the blinker on.. you should feel and hear a click...( With the key in the on position ).. That is what needed replaced if it doesn't keep clicking...Thats the turn signal relay... What makes it blink.......Hope this helps..
Please rate this solution if it helps... Thank You.....

is it always going back to normal or just coincidence you hitting it? If you hit it then that means it is about to burn out this makes the resistance change in the blinker relay causing it to blink faster. If it doesnt help all the time hitting it haha then most likely it is the big red triangle in the middle of your dash haha. The audis are all known for this to malfunction it is the blinker or hazzard relay. It is a 45 dollar part and Dealers charge 1.3 hours to put it in. You are looking at 180 dollars roughly for a dealer to install. So if you want change the bulb it is only 3 dollars for it. if it doesnt help then go the other route. I am almost 110 percent sure it is the more expensive route though im sorry to tell you. But good luck with it and i hope this helps you.

Probably the flasher, which is usually a small, round can-shaped device with two electrical prongs, usually located near your fuses underneath the dash. Can get these at an auto parts store for $5-10.

Probably a broken ground wire. Check it with a test light. Make sure you have a good ground, and then stick the test light right in the socket to see if there is power. If there is power to the test light, but still none to the bulb, it's a ground wire. If there is no power, its a power wire. Just keep poking the wires, and work your way back until you find some power. Make sure you have the lights on when you're checking. Good luck.

I recently had this problem,it appears to be in the emergency flasher button.at first no brake lights but center one worked. the emergency button was stuck and hard to move but once i got it loose i had all brake lights, so thinking my problem was solved i checked all lights and then found i had no signal lights, i went bach to the flasher button because it was still very hard to move and pressed down further and all lights work now so i think this will cure most turn and brake signal problems. the flasher button is rarely used and collects dust so it starts to stick and when you dust your dash or bump the button it will stick between contacts and the lights stop working. hope this helps!!
