Question about 1992 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

I cannot get the car started.

Ibelieve that the fuel pump is not working, If I recall correctly I was able to hear the fuel pump running when I turn on the ignition switch. I no longer can hear the pump running.

My question is, "is there a emergancy cut off switch on this vehicle. And if so where is it at. If it is the fuel pump is there a acsess panel under the car, so the pump can be changed out.

Most likely the fuel pump will need to be replaced. only way to replace is to drop the fuel tank and remove the pump from the top. the 92 camaro did not come with the emergency fuel cutoff switch. best way to find out is to turn the ignition on and listen at the fuel fille spout you should be able to hear it pretty good from there if it is working. to drop the tank ... you will need a jack, 2 jack stands and a standard socket set ... just jack up the car and support it by the stands. make sure you put something in front of the front wheels. remove the 2 fuel tank straps and lower the tank ... installing the tank will be easier if it is empty ... just drain the gas into a clean garbage can or small pail depending on how much fuel you have in it. just make sure you strain he fuel before putting it back in or you can look to possibly replacing the fuel filter.

How would I test fuel pump I changed fuel filter 89 grand Marquis

If your car died suddenly while driving, it is one thing, if it just didn't start one day, it is another, but given you have not given enough information, start here. Always check fuse first, this will tell you if pump is shot in most cases. Then check fuel pump relay located left fender under hood in fuse box. There are three relays as I recall, and if fuse was good, then more than likely it is relay, if I recall, two of relays are same type, so swap positions to diagnosis, you should be able to hear the fuel pump running, so get a gift wrap paper tube and put it near fuel pump location on gas tank and you should hear it easily, so this will further narrow down problem if you can't hear it run.

    Good luck. FREE-PPV

Car was running fine then sputtered and stopped

Have you used a fuel pressure gauge to insure you are getting correct pressure? Just hearing the pump run is not enough.

Saab 9000 will turn over but wont start

There are a LOT of things that can cause an engine to not start. The fuel pump is only one of many in a long list. Also, hearing the pump motor running does not mean it is delivering the correct amount of fuel pressure to make the engine run.

Proper diagnostic testing needs to be done to determine which SYSTEM is causing the problem (Ignition? Fuel? Engine mechanical problems/ low compression?)

I have a 1994 chevrolet cavalier 2.2L problem is it cranks and gets spark to all cylinders, have tested with tester to be sure, but it does not turn over and start what else could it be?? please help

Is it getting fuel? Have you tested the fuel pressure? You may have a faulty fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Can you hear your fuel pump buzzing. Remove your gas cap and have someone turn the key to the run position while you have your ear near the open gas tank. You should hear the pump making a buzz. If you don't hear anything you have a bad fuel pump or problem in the electrical circuit to the pump. If you do hear it running you still need to check the pressure. If the pump is buzzing it still may not be working correctly. You could try giving it a shot of starting fluid and if it runs on the starting fluid you know you have a fuel related problem. Be careful with the starting fluid because it is very flamable.

Engine cranks fast, I do not smell gas or hear fuel pump running. Have 75,000 miles on car. I ran low on gas and refilled tank and now I have trouble starting my LS. The cars gas filter is not 5,000 miles...

Usually, the reset is located in the trunk. Check the fuel pump fuse. Check the fuel pump relay if equipped. You can also turn your key to acc for 7 seconds, turn it off. Turn it on, and off. This will prime the fuel pump. If you don't hear it at all, it is probably bad. Some are located in under the back seat and some, the fuel tank has to be taken off. The pump needs to have 12V, in order to work correct.

Im working on a 95 s10 blazer. It has the 4.3 engine. It will only start if it is sprayed with starting fluid.the fuel pump, fuel filter, and pressure regulator have all been replaced.Seems like the system...

It sounds like the fuel pump is not working. Perhaps the install was not completed correctly. Things to check, fuel pump relay, wiring, voltage to the pump.
The priming happens as soon as you put the key in and turn it to "acc" (you may hear a humming sound). Then once you turn it to "start" the injectors and spark plugs start firing.
Another possibility is that the fuel filter was installed backwards.

Where is my fuel pump at? on a 1995 chevy camero 3.4 yes ran the car out of gas put so in wont start now what should i do first

Your fuel pump is in the tank. Turn on the ignition, and listen if you can hear the pump run in the tank. It will only run a few seconds if the engine is not running. You can repeat this several times to prime the fuel injection.

have this car checked for the (TSB) technical service bulletin this will help you start the car in cold weather -- too try this before you start the car turn key to on position then back off 3 times each time you should hear a hum from the electric fuel pump-- and if it starts up better then the recall will help you
his recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 3.5L engine ("F" in the 8th VIN Position),Thanks, Lee Davidian

Car wil crank but will not start

First, turn just the ignition switch to ON. You should hear the electric fuel pump run for a few seconds. If not, start tracing the fuel pump circuits.
If the fuel pump runs, check the fuel pressure to be sure it is correct. Next look to be sure you are getting spark.
