Isuzu C223 timing

My isuzu trooper has a diesel C223 engine i rebuilt myself and i cannot get the pump timing set right any suggestions

Need a injector pump dial indicator to set up lift in pump (movement on dial indicator)0.05mm at correct timing mark on crank pulley 12 deg.
the above is an example for 4JB1 & 4JB1-TC
which are isuzu diesel engines

Pump timing requires the use of a special dial-indicator tool, not readily available. You also need to verify your injector pop-off pressures and QOS/QSSI systems are functioning.

This one needs to go to a diesel mechanic.

How to fix an injector pump of 4jx1 engine


this is a USA forum what country are you in?
Fuel systems vary by engine, and country, so......?????
what needs fix'n?

the word fix has many meanings
  • how to rebuild the pump?
  • time it?
  • how to remove it put back?
  • how to bleed it.
  • and on and on... or a lift pump or ?
try to say what you are doing "the job" and why,

Diagnosing direct injection?



The 4JX1 is a 3.0 L direct injection diesel engine, turbo, some intercooled, which replaced the 4JG2 in the Isuzu Bighorn/Trooper/Holden Jackaroo.
It uses unit injectors and 4 valves per cylinder.

European and Asian buyers could opt for the diesel.

see we dont have this.
troopers are sold in Asia too, but not here with diesel.

Where can I find the fuel pressure regulator of Isuzu trooper?


Fuel pressure regulator is located on the back of the fuel rail, back right of engine.

Modulator valve location


to what? transmission or is the EGR mod or?
what year, trooper.
and what engine.

modulator means zero.
the injectors are modulators, the ISC is, and many other parts.

Black smoke and over reving


this car must be a Diesel as this sounds of a injector pump failure , there are two fine machined plates with groves cut in them "inside pump" after a lot of miles these two machined plates are not so machined anymore and fuel slips by causing the symptoms your describing , pump will need to be rebuilt and flow bench set or replaced with allready rebuilt/set unit to get things back to normal

Just puchased a 1998 trooper runs loud


It sound like you have a timing belt tensioner that is bad. Is the noise at the front of engine? If it is replace tensioner,timing belt and water pump. The pump is driven by the timing belt.
