Question about 2006 Subaru Legacy

1 Answer

I have a 2006 subaru legacy with 44k mi and michelin tires with 5k mi. It just started making a loud rumbling noise in the rear almost like the type of noise you would experiece on a bad road surface. Does anyone know what this could possibly be?

My 2009 Subaru legacy is making a loud humming noise. It is worse when I make turns....my suby has 10100,00 Hwy miles on it

Usually a sign of a faulty hub bearing on one wheel. In most cases the noise changes with a right or left turn depending on which side the bearing is on.

I had the same problem with my 2007 RX350. Had the tires replaced under warranty because of this roaring noise and still had the same problem. Replaced the original equipment brand tires with a set of new michelins and the noise went away. This was 10,000 miles ago.

RF wheel out of balance probably - maybe lost a balance weight or tire close to failure (seperated belts) - rotate to rear (and rear to front) and see if shake moves with tire (steering stops shaking)....then you'll know...

2001 Sebring LXI convertable. Loud rumbling noise that increases as accelerating increases. Sounds like a rumble strip on the highway. I changed the tires with no change in the noise.

Bad hub bearing. Drive the car on a straght EMPTY road .@30 mph or when noise is audible, **** the wheel left than right (similar to a race car warming. tires) and listen if there is a change in the sound if so its a front bearing if not it should be a rear bearing .Jack the rear of the vehicle up and spin the tire holding onto the strut. Feel and listen for a vibration or noise. This should pinpoint that elusive noise.Let me know Good hunting
