Replace the wiring harness to your alternator...my dad had the same problem and it turned out to be a wire in the wiring harness to the alternator...just like you everything checked out fine on his car and then one mechanic decided to check in the split loom around the wires to the alternator only to fine one of the wires had been burned and broke, once that was fixed the car ran like a champ...you can't see the damage you have to check inside the split loom of the wiring harness to the alternator.

Replace battery and alternator 2x in 6 months

Get a cheap multimeter and test for drain, sometimes it is the starter, check the battery at all off, and running, your parts I hope are warrantied have them both tested and checked, The starter and or coil can cause weird electrical issues and a bad ground could be causing everything to work harder. You need an honest mechanic who cares about solving the problems.

My escort will not start when i use the key but will start on a tow

Have your battery, alternator , and starter checked. you can check them yourself if you have a little mechanical know how. it is either not running any current to the starter because the battery is dead and will not recharge. It may be old and you need to replace it. If the alternator is bad, it will not charge the battery. If both the battery and the alternator are GOOD, your starter is bad.
