  • White smoke from the exhaust pipe.
  • Overheating engine.
  • Bubbles in the radiator or coolant overflow tank.
  • White milky oil.
  • Significant loss of coolant with no visible leaks.

Ford e250 gas van 5.4 engine 2000 model oil in water

Head gasket could be leaking from oil passageway to coolant passage without significant amount of coolant going to oil. A new head gasket may have to be installed to repair this problem.

Car overheating

First confirm that the engine IS actually overheating - steam, no heat to the interior etc. Sometimes a temperature sensor will fail and give a misleading 'overheat' reading on gauge. For that matter sometimes the gauge can fail and give the same misleading reading. Check that the cooling fan comes on when the engine temperature starts to rise above 'normal'. If not check (in order) fan fuse, fan relay, fan sensor, fan. Real overheating is caused by a lack of coolant AND/OR lack of coolant flow. Modern cooling systems are 'closed'. In other words there should be little or no loss of coolant. If the level is significantly low you have a leak....either external or internal. With the coolant topped up to the correct level and the radiator cap on, run the engine and look for visible leaks...hoses, valves, radiator etc. Internal leaks, eg. head gasket will usually be accompanied by white exhaust smoke (steam), hard starting, rough running and bubbles in the expansion tank. Sometimes, though NOT always, you will find the engine oil has a milky look and/or engine oil will be mixed in with the coolant.

How do i know if i have a cracked block

Loss of coolant, steam, coolant in oil, Oil leak, Loss of compression. Don't forget now engines do have freeze plugs and those sometimes rot out. Fill the radiator and replace the cap run the engine and look underneath the engine bay and inside. If you are losing fluid determine what fluid it is. Don't mistake a blown head gasket for a cracked block. Don't mistake a cracked cylinder head for a cracked block. You can crack a cylinder head just as well as you could crack a block. After you have determined a leak shut the car off. And squeze one of the hoses the coolant will spray or drip out of the crack or hole.
Hope this helps
Please leave me a good feedback.
Thanks

1998 cadillac deville leaking coolant, temperature was around 196 and when leaking started temperature has gone as high as 225, what is causing this problem?

This most certainly sounds like a water pump issue. The thermostate is located inside the water pump housing and if the pump is bad you'l lose fluids and need to add every day or so. The temp guage will run hot and often the heater won't warm up. You have even notice fluids on the ground below the front passenger side of the car. Try getting a pressure test first before replacing anything. That's a good place to start the diagnosis.

Losing fluid and car is overheating - no visible leaks.got opinion from radiator people say head gasket is blown can this be true ? no oil in water or water in oil

you can have a blown head gasket without mixing of liquids, the coolant is going out the tailpipe, and engine compression is overloading the coolant system pressure

TECHNICAL
Subject:
Engine Coolant Loss with No Visible Leaks (Reseal Injector Sleeve)

Some owners may comment on engine coolant loss with no visible leaks. Excessive white smoke or a coolant type odor coming from the exhaust pipe, along with low coolant levels, may indicate coolant in the combustion chamber.
Cause
Condition may be caused by engine coolant entering the cylinder due to a dirty or damaged seal between the fuel injector sleeve and the cylinder head.

If it's black smoke, you could have a faulty or dirty EGR valve and may not be closing 100%. Remove the EGR valve and clean it with spraying carb cleaner and reinstall after inspecting the valve can move without any binding. Goo luck and hope this helps.

Losing coolant in Saturn 1998 SC2, water pump recently replaced, mechanics can't find the leak. Any suggestions?

if it is leaking from the lower hose on the radiator then chances are it is dripping onto the ground and they wont notice it. Tighten the clamp and see if that helps.
