Oil pressure gauge on max - running rough

2002 grand cherokee - went to change spark plugs, took 1st plug out and discovered that my replacement plugs were wrong. Cleaned old plug (plug in pretty bad shape)with wire brush wheel in the drill press and reinstalled. Backed out of the garage, engine running really rough, service engine light came on right away (flashing) and oil pressure gauge went to max. Drove around the block, didn't get any better and engine light now on solid. Is there anything wrong other than a bad plug? Concerned about oil pressure gauge. Any help greatly appreciated

Install a fresh set of plugs. make sure to check them for proper gap, even if they are " pre-gapped "

I have a 2002 jeep Cherokee oil gauge show max out when i start the Eng

When oil is cold, pressure will read high, but as it warms up pressure indicator should drop to normal. Are you using the correct weight oil for your weather conditions? Running straight 30 weight, or say 20w50 could cause this issue.

Rough idling

When my Grand Cherokee was having similar rough idling problems, I replaced all the plugs and replaced all the ignition and spark plug wires. I also put in half bottle of fuel injector cleaner in gas tank (full, as recommended). I had both immediate improvement in power, smoother idling and my gas mileage went up 2mpg (approx).

2002 jeep grand cherokee shows no oil pressure on the gauge, but is running okay

check the pressure sending unit. the sensor (on Fords) is usually near the oil filter. not sure on your 4.0L 318(5.2L).

2000 grand cherokee oil pressure gauge to max. I changed the oil and the gaige is still to max... Thank you

The sending unit is on the drivers side of the engine block. in the back, you will see the line going to it. Replace the sending unit with a new one and that should fixya.

Oil gauge maxes out whin key is turn to on but before engine is started, when started gauge stays in the max out postion. what might the problem be?thank you

The oil pressure sensor has failed. Check to see if the wire has not been knocked off when the oil filter was changed. I think the sensor is either by the oil filter or at the rear top of the engine where the trans bolts up. If the wire is good and connected have the sensor replaced.

02 cherokee losing oil pressure when accelerating, fine at idle.

Was the sending unit an aftermarket part?We like to install the original part back into most vehicle, but because of people price shopping, this can cause some issues. If the switch is working properly, the gauge should rise as the engine RPM's increase as you stated. With the key on and the engine off, disconnect the sending unit wire and ground it. The gauge should go to the highest reading, and that checks the wire, and the gauge. I suspect that the sending unit is failed or not the proper one for your vehicle.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L oil pressure gauge reading too high

if the gauge starts a 0 - goes to 1/2 , than full - sounds like gauge is OK - seems to me like the sending unit is bad - you could try removing the sender and trying to clean out the port with "brake clean", letting it dry than re-installing it. the pressure switch is still the least expensive place to start

Oil Pressure Always Runs High - 2002 Grand Jeep Cherokee

If your oil pressure is running in the red this would indicate too much oil in the system. You should have your oil changed and refilled soon or you run the risk of burning out the oil pump. At idle your pressure should be just over a quarter of what your gauge has. At highway speed it should not exceed 3/4 of the gauge unless your going in excess of 100 MPH. Change the oil and filter and your vehicle should be fine.
