Question about 1995 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

1995 pontiac grand am: AC

I have a 1995 pontiac grand am and accidently unhooked the Hi side line from the air conditioner compressor. I checked the pressure in the low side and it is ready full. Should the low side need to be recharged, or just the high side, and how do you fill the high side? Do you fill it the same way as the low side with a can of 134a

You take your car to the nearest licensed automotive A/C shop and have them evacuate the system and recharge.

I'm saying this because once you have opened the system, you have let moisture into it. Even a small amount of moisture will damage your A/C system, and needs to be removed. Also, they will know just how much refrigerant to put into the system once it is moisture free.

Water on floor passenger side after it rains and after air has been running 2000 grand prix

Ac hose leak?
leaking heater core?

Hint: it leaks when it RAINS

If it were related to the heater core or the AC drain, it would be leaking when it is not raining also, so those diagnoses are not logical.

The grand prix has a long history of floor leaks from seal failures around the air intake under the windshield cowling, where RAIN water runs in.

I need to locate the low side ac port. air conditioner needs charge and i cannot locate the right port.

The easiest way to locate the low side charge port on any vehicle is to locate the A/C compressor, follow the "larger" of the two lines all the way back to the firewall. Some where along that line you will find the low side charge port.
Good luck.

Most of the time they are on the underneth,of the engine compartment on passengers side,on the rear of the ac compressor on the low side line,Find the ac compressor, and follow the large ac line coming from it,and it will take you right to it.

LOUD NOISE COMING FROM AIR CONDITIONER PUMP

You are fixing to loose your ac. The compressor is failing. It will have to be replaced. The compressor runs about $300 or a little more at a parts store. I changed mine myself. It's fairly simple.

Cant find low side of the air conditioner line to recharge a 96 v6 grand am

Look at the back side of the A/C compressor on the lines. If for some odd reason it is not there due to replacement (or something?!) follow the low side line from the firewall back to the compressor being sure to cover the accumulator as well.

Accidently unhooked a pressurized line when changing heater core. I believe it is an ac line however my 134a level is reading full. There are 2 lines next to each other. I unhooked the smaller of the two...

Normally when you unhook an ac line you purge the system and recharge it. You probably unhooked the high side line from the compresser is my guess. If your system is full (ie you have a gauge pack), and the temp is correct at the outlets in the car, then I suppose you could run it. However, I do not see how your system could be charged since you unhooked the hose...If your temps are not cold in the car, a shop or a lot of oil change places will recharge it, or you can buy the 12 oz cans at the parts house. Hope this helps you, Rick
