Question about 1994 Chevrolet Astro

1 Answer

'94 Astro - long ago I added Lucas trans additive, afterward van wouldn't shift up from 1st unless manually shifted from 1st to 2nd, then won't shift any higher. Was told by a reputable trans repairman to get that Lucas out. I've changed fluid & filter 4 times now, each time it worked until the last time It didn't work the 1st day, but worked fine the 2nd day, then wouldn't work again the next day. My mechanic says it might be a solenoid. (?)

It does sound like a solenoid in the trans. the problem with addditive is that it has detergent in it and will loosen dirt and sediment that has collected in the trans mission this will the flow through the tran and clog parts like the shift solenoids. hope this helps some

Is there any odor to the trans fluid? Does it have any burned smell on the dipstick?

1988 Chev. Van G30, auto. Trans., shifts fine from 1st to 2nd, but trying to go into high(3rd) gear takes a very long time getting into 3rd. gear. You can feel the holding back then after the speed picks...

Try using Lucas transmission fix. This product works great. Check your tranny fluid first (warm engine in park) it must be red and not black (contaminants) and not light pink and foamy (water), both require a visit to a transmission shop.
Before adding the Lucas, if your tranny level is normal, you MUST remove the same amount of tranny fluid as the amount of Lucas you are putting in. You can use clear plastic tubing that will fit into the fill tube and siphon it out. It could also be that your detent cable needs to be adjusted. You will need to get instructions on how to to this. It is fairly easy to adjust. It will be a cable connected to the throttle body.

Transmission won't shift

Fluid Change has nothing to do with making a
repair or solving anything,it will however make
a slipping trans slip worst & even quit
Do you have 120,000 miles on the trans, then it's time
to rebuild or replace it with a reman

Trembling while shifting on '02 F150 King Ranch

First-NEVER add anything to an automatic trans.
Your vehicle should use Mercon V --PERIOD
Change it at least three times, to get the Lucas out.

Have the TPS Sensor checked out.
You most likely have a Tran Pack Solenoid going bad.
It is bolted to the valve body. You can do it yourself

94 Pathfinder, Manual transmission slipping a tiny bit. I want to add Lucas Stop Slip. How do I do this. Theres no Dipstick to check levels of TRANS FLUIDS

Adding Stop slip to a manual transmission with not keep your clutch from slipping. Replace or adjust the clutch.

Honda accord exr 1987 automatic trans.

It's hard to understand when you say it feels like a manual shift. Noise? Feel? I do know that the 87 auto trans does have a weak 1st to 2nd shift drum (as explained to me by my mechanic) that makes a grinding, elongated shift under heavy acceleration when it starts to wear. Under normal acceleration, 1st to 2nd shifts were normal (crisp, immediate). Since that day 8 years ago, I've avoided starting off to quickly, and so far have saved myself a tranny overhaul.
