I think factory spec is 60,000 and if you go more than 100,000 you can expect a failure...
Hope this helps...;-)

When should a 2002 subaru legacy timing belt be changed?

That belt should be inspected every 30000 miles and replaced at 105000 miles.

Look here for the entire 2002 Subaru legacy maintenance schedule :

or here, if you are in California:

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

I have a 1992 Subaru Legacy Wagon.Told I need to replace the Serpentine Belt.If the belt should break before I have it changed, will the vehicle still operate?

Depends on which belt - if it's the timing belt, no, the engine will no longer run, and if you have interference engine, you can ruin your engine. If it's the power steering belt, yes, you will just loose power steering. If it's the alternator belt, yes, for a while, until your battery runs out of power. If it's the air conditioning belt, yes, the car will run.

97 Subaru Legacy, 142,000 miles. Temp Guage

Sounds like the Coolant is not full and has a air bubble. It is very important to have the system filled complete. That would be the first step.Good luck and have a great day.

Does a 1993 Legacy 2.2 have a timing belt that needs replaced at a certan mileage?

Hello there, Yes these cars do have Timing belts, I always recommend changing your Timing Belt at 75,000 miles. It is much better to be safe by changing it than having it break and add up a lot of extra expenses.

Good luck and I hope this helps you, Allen

Is there a timing belt or chain in a 2004 Subaru Outback wagon? If it is a belt, at what mileage should it be changed?

The 2.5L engine has a timing belt and it should be replaced at 105K. The 3.0L engines have a timing chain and are not serviced regularly.
