Question about 2001 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

When you put the brake pedal, does the rear drum brake work?

My car is 2001 Toyota corolla S. I heard that the rear drum brake works only if I pull the hand brake up. But some say it works when you put the brake pedal while driving. Which one is correct? and I feel some minor vibration and some noise when it's in D, but no vibration when it's in neutral. What would be the problem? Can I make it run smoother? Thanks in advance.

How do I fix the brakes in my 99 Toyota Corolla? I have no brakes and the pedal goes right to the floor.

have you adjusted the rear brakes correctly ( drum brakes)
if not drums then you have air in the systems still
brake bleeding is done starting at the wheel with the longest line and ending at the shortest line
It is a 2 person operation unless you have a pressure bleeder pump attached to the reservoir
your problem is air in the system

The brakepetal pusis bak when i stepp on the brake and wiberates. Sometimes it gets wery hard to brake.

It can be issue with master cylinder or the problem is there is still some air there in the system that has to be bleed. Or else the parts replaced are not aligned properly/.I suggest everything back.

There are few help links mentioned below to troubleshoot the issue.

How to adjust rear brakes shoes on toyota corrolla 1999

the shoes on drum brakes should auto adjust by backing up and applying pressure to the brake pedal (you may hear a clicking noise from the springs on the adjustment stars as they turn). If this does not work, the mechanism may be broken, aligned improperly or stuck by corrosion. Most drum brake assemblies have an access hole in the drum or backing plate to make manual adjustments, comment back to me if u have these access holes and I will walk you through the procedure...(check your shoe lining thickness as you may just need new brake shoes)

Toyota 2001 Sienna brake problem when i press the brake pedal the brakes aren't as strong as the used to be. Even with new brake pads. I have to pump the brake pedal to make them have more power. What...

Check your brake fluid level. if ok, have the system bled as there may be air in the brake system. If your fluid is low, have the brake system checked for leaks. Hopefully this helps!!

2001 Corolla LE Brakes are not strong

Could be many things to look at. 2001 Corolla, assume disc pads in front, and regular drum style brakes in rear. Generally, most of your braking will come from the front disc brakes, and no adjustment is provided in these. Rear drum brakes can be adjusted two ways. Manually, they are adjusted by accessing the adjustment "cog" or threaded rod via a slot in the back of the plate that the drum fits up against. This should be done when the brakes shoes are first installed. As an alternative, the brakes will automatically adjust when you apply the brakes while backing up. I'd suggest that you find a big old empty parking lot, without a lot of light poles to hit, and place car in reverse, get going about 5 MPH, then hit the brakes firmly to stop. Repeat this a dozen times and see what results you get.

I am, of course, assuming that the brake fluid level is good and you see no leaks from either the front calipers or the rear brake cylinders.

1990 Toyota Corolla rear drums bad?

If your pads are completely gone then you may have damaged the drums if you still have any pads left or shoes if they are drum brakes then you still need to have your drums checked out for the proper size to still be there for the brakes to function properly. You won't know until you look at them or are shown them by a pro. who has measured and found them to be beyond reuse! If you had leaks then you will need to repair the brake calipers or the wheel cylinders depending on which system you have drum or disc they are different!!! Hope this helps someway !!
