Question about 2000 Saturn Ls 4dr Sedan

Bad thermostat replaced thermostat but car is still overheating. receptacle rises to top boiling and doesn't seem to drain. did I buy a dud or is it something else

Try checking the hoses... you may need new hoses for the car. If the car is overheating... it is possible the coolant is unable to do an efficiant job due to a leak...

When cold fill the radiator with water and leave the cap off. Make sure that you have all the air out.
Start the car and watch the radiator, you are looking for air bubbles coming out of the radiator. If you have a steady stream of bubbles appearing you have a blown head gasket.

need to check or replace the cylinder head gasket. it may has blocked passage or the cylinder head is twisted.

Check the over flow tank located in front of the passenger side glove box for water or fluid. When driving the car, listen by the glove box to see if you car hear a boiling sound. If you can hear water boiling or moving, check your heater core to make sure it is not plugged or bad. When the car starts to over heat, does the gauge register that it is getting hot? If it doesn't then check the thermostat to make sure it is not stuck open or closed. If its over heating and the gauge is not showing that the car is running hot before boiling over, then the thermostat is defective or not working. Try replacing it again.

My 2001 Ford Taurus keeps running too hot to safely drive. Whenever the car is started fluid immediately gushes out of the plastic resevior that you put the water/antifreeze leading to the radiator. I...


You have an air bubble at the top of the engine.
The antifreeze spewing out of the overflow happens due to your perfectly functional radiator cap
passing the overheated coolant/air mixture out of the system into the reservior (in an attempt
to relieve overpressurization of the cooling system)
The sudden nature of your overheating comes from the boiling of the inadequate amount of
coolant/antifreeze in your engine, since it cant properly cool the engine, so it boils (overheats quickly), and pressure rises immediately within the cooling system.
The Fix is free: locate and open the (air) bleeder port at the top of the engine, and add the usual
50% coolant/50% water mixture to the radiator until the radiator is full to the level indicated in
your owner's manual (or the "Full" line). Then close the bleeder port and replace the rad (radiator)
cap.
The air bleeder port is normally located near the thermostat, and should be opened each time
that coolant is added to the radiator. The air bleeder port need not be opened when adding
50/50 coolant to the reservior, since the rad cap is going to be closed while adding coolant
to this part of the cooling system.
Warning: driving beyond the point where your engine temperature gauge indicates overheating will
destroy the car's engine - it'll seize up due to overheating, and the only fix for a seized/burned-up
engine is replacement (of the engine). Seizing an engine is really easy with an air bubble in the
top of the engine - you could easily burn up/warp the head, necessitating replacement of the head
and head gask

Thermostat is closed all the time, it needs to be replaced ASAP-don't drive it to the point of it overheating, an aluminum engine does not tolerate overheating well-blown head gaskets, warped head/block, or worse, all very expensive-the thermostat is cheap and should cost less than $100 to replace, you could do it yourself for less than $25.

Coolant light on


You say it's overheating, more info needed such as:
Is the engine temp gauge showing that it's overheating?
Is it actually 'boiling over' and losing coolant?
If it's running hot, but not losing coolant, check to see it the cooling fan is operating when the engine temp rises. You may have a bad cooling fan switch that is not signaling the fan to go on to lower the engine temp.
It could be a stuck (closed) thermostat that is preventing proper circulation of coolant after the car reaches operating temp.

FOLLOW THE TOP RADIATOR HOSE TO THE ENGINE BLOCK, AND THAT'S WHERE YOU'LL FIND IT . GOOD LUCK.OH, WHEN YOU TAKE IT OUT, PUT IT IN A PAN AND BOIL IT. WATCH CLOSELY TO SEE IF IT OPENS. IF NOT IT'S BAD.

Engine overheating even after replacing thermostat


even though this may seem like a dumb question but did you install the thermostat the correct way? the spring should be fascing toward the intake of the engine. if this doesn't help you need to try anf lush the system you might have a blockage in the system. if it styill persists that means the water pump is not circulating the coolant and the pump needs replacing. also be sure to see if your electronic cooling fan is working

One of the common things that gets missed at times is the radiator is down in cooling antifreeze. The car will act as normal during the warm up cycle and then the temperature guage will rise and then it will slowly come back down as the thermostat opens and/or the electric cooling fans come on. In actuality the engine is overheating, but it is not boiling over. The level of abtifreeze is at just the right level of lowness that you experience this phenomenon. After the engine cools off , (DO NOT REMOVE WHEN HOT - YOU CAN GET SCALDED WITH BOILING WATER/ANTIFREEZE)), remove the radiator cap and check the level within the radiator and also the antifreeze reservoir level. You can buy a 50-50 mix of antifreeze and water that is ready to put into the radiator. If the level in both the radiator and reservoir are correct, you may have a bad thermostat or some other problem.
