Thare are 5 illumonation bulbs in the back of the insterment cluster . the insterment cluster has to be removed to replace these lights - not an easy job- not a do it yourselfer. i did one at the job the oter day and i think the charge was around 300 dollars for labor and the bulbs are 80 cents a piece- if you have someone do the work make sure thay replace all 5 illumination bulbs while thare in thare blown or not

Dashboard In a 1997 ford expedition won't come on

If you are talking about the instrument panel and radio lights, one possibility is a broken panel light dimmer rheostat (This is not the same as the headlight dimmer switch). Try turning it to full brightness. If at some point the lights suddenly come on, that's definitely your problem. If the lights don't come on, it could still be broken.

I have seen an older vehicle driven by a person who didn't notice the instrument panel lamps were burning out until the last one went - maybe all you have to do is replace all of the bulbs. :)

Also, check the instrument panel fuse. If it's blown, you'll have to track down the wiring problem that caused the fuse to blow. Merely replacing the fuse is just asking for the problem to happen again at the worst possible moment - such as on a dark road on a dark night where there is a known speed trap, when you're low on fuel, and suddenly you're unable to see either the speedometer or the fuel gauge.

Some of my guages work & some dont(the thing that keeps track of miles gone & the guage that keeps total miles, also background lights) on the dashboard, is it electrical or a fuse prob ??

several things could cause this, a connector on back of panel came loose, shorted wire rubbed through insulation. start with looking at gauge cluster panel.

The speedometer and radio went out and only the speedometer will come back from time to time 2001 chevy express van 1500

Hi,
The most common cause for an electrical component to fail in a vehicle dashboard configuration is a blown fuse. According to the diagram for the fuse panel for your vehicle, the radio has two-10 amp fuses, one located in slot 17 and the other in slot 19. Slot 19 should be on the top of the far left row of fuses, while 17 should be on the next row over, one up from the bottom.
The Speedometer issue sounds more like a wire is grounding out somewhere. If it were the fuse, your entire instrument panel would go dead because the entire panel is routed through one 10 amp fuse in slot 4, far right row, third up from the bottom. You can check that fuse as well, but the loss and regaining of power to the speedometer and the fact that you didn't mention other instruments in the cluster going out lead me to believe there is a bad wire somewhere.
Hope this helps!

Jetta 94 speedometer, tacometer, and clock doesn't work

The problem is the dashboard circuit board. Some connections burn up over time. Happened twice alerady, and this week again. This time light oil if flashing, buzzer buzzing, and other warning lights going crazy. Take out the dashboard and pc board. On the back, look for darkened resins spots. These are indications of intense heat. Gently scrape off and examine wire trace under with a magnifying lens. Look for tine break. Solder a wire around the break. See attached picture. I had to make two such fixes already and I going to look for more to try to fix my current problem.

My Dashboard Light is out and I can't see the radio buttons and even worse I can't see the speedometer or the rpms if it is dark outside!! What do I do1?!?

Typically, the dashboard lights go out to signal that the taillights are not working. Check those first. Then the fuses. Would need make, model and year to help more.
