Look on the back when you have it out, are the 1 or 2 little "burnt" spots? Get some solder, flux and a solder iron, and put a tiny bit of each on the burnt spot(s).

My 1981 corvette tach quite working how do I get working again?

1981 Corvette has an electical tachometer that is driven by impulses from the distributor. First, check for blown fuses, next make sure the tach wire is plugged into the distributor. Next bypass silver tach filter or capacitor located by manifold to see if the tach moves at all. If these steps do not reveal a change in tach operation, then the most obvious next step is to remove the tachometer and get a new board for the tachometer. Unscrew and remove cluster lens and then unscrew tach bezel, and gently pull out the tach noting position of insulators. I believe these boards are available still at local autoparts locations. Replace board, note position of insulators and reinstall tach, bezel and lens. Old corvette are cool and are pretty easy to work on! Should be fixed, enjoy!

Its not likely the transmission is causing the problem if both the speedo and tach are out. The tach does not involve the transmission.
Sounds more like a problem with the instrument cluster or the body computer.
You may have to get a used shop manual to get the wiring diagrams and testing procedures.

I my daughter has a 1999 Toyota Solara The factory Tach was showing some working not working activity. Some days it would would work fine and sometimes it wouldn't. Now it doesn't work at all. I have a...

On All Newer Toyota vehicles, the tachometer receives it's information directly from the ECU, or on board computer. This is a bit of a sticky problem, however, I would first disconnect the negative side of the battery cable from the battery and check and clean the electrical connection at the back of the instrument cluster in which the Tachometer is housed. and then I would check the connections to the ECU. If I recall, it is behind the glove box on most Toyotas. The after that I would reconnect the battery cable and test to see if it solves the problem. Have you read the error codes stored in the ECU? That might also give clues as to where the problem is originating.

Both my speedometer and tachometer stopped working. My speedometer stopped working first and less than a minute later, the tach stopped as well. My code reader says speed sensor which makes sense, but what...

The speed sensor can be tested with a scanner. Only take 10 minutes, If it works then your instrument cluster took a dive. Same thing with the RPM. If the scanner sees it then the cluster is bad. Getting it diagnosed properly is your best bet. You can get the cluster rebuilt for alot less than new. modulemaster.com does them.

Tachometer stopped working completely but all other gauges are fine. Tachometer would work off and on for a few days before completely not working. "Check engine light" stays on. All fuses are fine. This...

It's very UNLIKELY the jumpstart had anything to do with it, unless you accidentally connected the battery in 'reverse polarity', which causes the electrical system voltages to 'DROP' instantaneously to near zero volts and create 'current spiking' in all active circuits. Nevertheless, the microcomp in the instrument cluster which drives the TACH has protective curcuits. The only solutions are to eliminate any problems in the wiring between the ECM/PCM and the instrument cluster, and bench test the tach to determine if it's working properly. Process of elimination - if wiring is ok and the Tach is ok, then the problem is in the ECM/PCM.

98 civic lx where is ignition coil?? ++

IT'S A BLUE WIRE ON THE BACK OF THE CONNECTOR THAT WOULD NORMALLY GO TO THE FACTORY TACHOMETER IN THE DASH. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE DASH GAUGE CLUSTER TO GET AT THE CONNECTOR. THE CONNECTOR WILL NOT BE PLUGGED INTO ANYTHING IF YOU DON'T HAVE A FACTORY TACHOMETER (DX, CX, HX ETC...YOU WILL HAVE TO SPLICE INTO OR CUT THE BLUE WIRE FROM THE PLUG. IT GOES TO TACH SIGNAL WIRE ON YOUR NEW TACH.
