1990 Honda Accord High Idle and No Brakes in Warm Weather

I have a 1990 Honda Accord. In warmer weather my car idles higher than it usually does and the brake pedal goes to the floor. The car runs good in cooler weather, it's just in warmer weather that I notice these two problems.

2003 Kia Sedona what is the RPM supposed to idle aton cold start an in warm weather

Idle speed depends on a number of factors; for instance it may idle faster when the air conditioner is on. Instead of a fixed idle speed, as in the old cars, the engine computer sets the speed to whatever is needed to run any accessories and maintain smooth operation, but generally not more than that. That's under normal circumstances. There are several failure modes that cause erratic idle speed; usually the engine will also run roughly.

What causes a f150 to start in high idel

What year F150? Newer? Is it cold right now where you are? It is normal for most fuel injected, computer controlled engines to run at higher idle speeds in colder weather (kind of equivalent to a choke) It helps warm up the engine faster. As long as the idle speed gets close to normal when the engine is warm and no lights are on, I wouldn't worry about it!

my 1990 mazda 323 was doing that for the past couple months every now and again, then after my car sat for about a week to get repaired for another problem, the head gasket completely blew, it knocks very rough and loud, and smoke comes out of my engine.
some advice? get rid of it, head's are not cheap fixes

Hi there my 1996 honda accord is giving problems in the cold weather on startup. The battery seems good and the starter as well it cranks over just fine but no ignition. The car is struggles to start....

I would need more info on the 96:
when you say struggles to start do you mean it cranks for a long period of time or does it sound weak when cranking.

On the 94:
It very much sounds like the idle control motor. Usually if you let the vehicle warm up in place you can avoid this. take the idle air control off and see if there is a lot of carbon build up and clean carefully.
Most often I opt for replacing the idle control motor.

Remember if this helps, please leave feedback and vote. Thank you and good luck.

What oil viscocity for honda accord DX 1990 for cold weather ?

5W- 30 is the lowest you can go in winter time. I would use a high mileage formula since we're talking about a 1990 honda. It will help condition the seals in the motor from making any oil leaks worse.

usually idle that goes up and down is cause by a bad "idle control valve" located near the throttle body. Needs to be replace.

My 2000 honda accord has a continuiing problem of not wanting to start after I travel somewhere and turn off the engine. It takes about 30-40 minutes for it to start again. Happens in hot weather.

is the engine cranking and not starting? Or is there no crank? When this occurs check if some lights (on the instrument panel) aren't lit when the key is turned to the on position!! If there is unlit lights **** as engine, abs, airbag etc. Its your ignition switch!!(there is a TSB recall on 1997-2000 hondas. Check your local honda dealer for info on this. Ignition switch failure is common on honda vehicles and usually gets worst in warmer weather.

Hopefully fixed the problem by setting the idle a little higher. I think the IACV is ok.
