Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

1 Answer

Steering sticking. At half turn sterring jams. their is no return and i must manually straighten vehichle. verified both universal joints in the steering and electrique power steering seems to function. I am guessing rack and pinion defective can someone confirm this?? I myself have had the steering warning indicator message appear. I noticed by moving the tilt steering up and down power steering would come back.

power steering pump might be bad or low on fluid or you have a broken control arm under your vehichle you will need to look under your vehichle to see whats wrong or broken,do not try to drive it that way,you could also have a broken ball joint

You have small universal joints on the steering column, One under the dash and the other/others under the hood. try lubing the ones under the hood do this while turning the wheel back and forth. try it a couple of times and see if it gets rid of your problem. if it did you will still need to replace the universals at some point in the near future

Usually as an assembly. The shaft with the universal joints. I don't believe the u-joints are available seperate.

sounds to me like front half-shafts outer c/v are frozen OR the c/v boots are split and the lube is gone.
a visual on the boots, if you see grease all spread around there, then the joints are new half-shafts.
also, possible worn ball joints causing the steering knuckles to bind on a hard turn...
