Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix

Open Question

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L NSC - STALLING

My 2001 Grand Prix GT with 155K miles stalls repeatedly within 10-15 miles of each drive. It cuts out immediately...not a sputter. It consistently throws a P0101 MAF code and I must reset from my scanner to restart and be on my way. I have replaced the MAF sensor and checked the connector at the sensor for a loose or intermittent connection. I have replaced the PCM with a reman and flashed with the latest firmware. I've had it in a garage to take advantage of their diagnostic equipment and they suggested the new PCM, but have been doing all the work myself. At this point, I'm at a loss, but I keep reading about the crankshaft sensor being a potential for causing immediate stalls?? The P0101 code baffles me though. Any help would be appreciated. The car runs great otherwise. Thank you.

I have the same problem with my 01 gpgt. It seems to only do it when the temperature outside is above 70??? not sure but i have a crank sensor and am goin to replace it

Paul...yes I did. The code P0104 indicated MAF sensor, but that wasn't it. A diagnostics check let one mechanic to recommend a new PCM/ECM module, which I changed out too. Nada. I finally surrendered and took it to my Pontiac dealer and it ended up being the least expensive sensor in the car...the MAP sensor. Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. It's never happened since then and I had a master mechanic on one of these sites tell me that he had heard of that one other time. That as my deal...good luck.

Did you ever find a solution? I have the very same problem on 2000 GP 3.8 It usually does it when my wife is in the car. So I try not to take her anywhere. This plan isn't working very well:) I don't have a clue what it could be.

Just for laughs, did you check to see if the fuel pump is working when it stalls?

SOURCE: hard starting.. check engine on P0101

The filter is after the sensor. If the filter is dirty, it should be replaced anyways. If the sensor is covered in dirt, than yes clean it first.
Lastly replace MAF

SOURCE: 02 Grand Prix GT 3800 starts and stalls

Id say maf again, due to the previous instance, however on a 3.8 i wouldnt be above checking the fuel pressure regulator for seeping through the vacuum hole. The boss has a 00 impala with a 3800 and my wife does both with 230k roughly on each, seen quite a few of those regulators and maf's over that time.

I'm guessing your converter is staying locked up and stalling your car or either have something jamming up inside.. What transmission is it? I'd suggest dropping your transmission pan off and seeing if there is any material in there

My 1999 grand prix stalls and dies at stops.

My Pontiac Grand Prix is also a 99, it has 216,+ thousand miles on it, it runs great, idles good, I need to replace the oxygen sensor tho as it shuts off on me while driving or sometimes coming to a stop. You might try checking the fuel filter and pump as well.

99 Pontiac Grand Prix. When car slows down or

There are SO many things that could be to blame, such as a relay sticking in the Engine Management System, which controls fuel cut-off on deceleration, for example.

Have you changed the fuel filter yet?
If it's the original on a 99 model and a previous owner has run the tank dry, it will have sucked dirt into the filter.

Otherwise, the fuel pump may not be working efficiently.
Does the engine sound ok and maintain steady revs, around 850/900rpm when it's started up?
