It is self bleeding, just crank it for about 10-20 seconds.

Earl You have to be able to bleed all of the air out of the fuel filter and lines for your engine to run. If the fuel is leaking back to the tank there is a problem with the valves in the hand primer pump. You might have to replace the pump. Remove or loosen the bleed screw on the top of the filter and pump out all of the air so there is no more bubbles then loosen the fuel lines at the injectors and turn the engine over with the starter to bleed the lines. Only crank over with the starter for 30 seconds per try and give the starter time to cool down

My 5.9 dodge cummins diesel won't start, I've replaced the fuel lift pump, and the fuel filter, turns over. But will not start?

Most likely you just have air in the lines.Crack them open one at a time and bleed them with the fuel pump off and on till you get fuel.If it fires dont hit the throttle let it sit and idle and close the line.Does it fire up with a small whif of starting fluid?

I just replaced both fuel filters and now the truck won't start.

Hi,
If that is a DiESEL engine, you have to bleed it thoroughly until there is no air in the fuel system. Check the top of the filter and unscrew the bleeder nipple and pump it fuel and air will come out.
If it is a petrol engine, air must have been stuck on the intake fuel line, bleed it until pure liquid comes out from the fuel filter hose output.
Check your fuel gauge, you might not have enough fuel!
Hope that helps you out.

How do you change the fuel filter on a 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme 4 door 3.1 V6? Vin#1G3WH52M8TF372414

Hi,

Fuel filters are easy to replace but let me give you some friendly warnings:

CAUTION. To reducethe risk of fire and personal injury always follow the correct procedure for disconnecting and connecting fuel pipe quick connect fittings. This will ensure good connections and prevent possible fuel leaks.

CAUTION. Safety glasses must be worn if you use compressed air, as flying dirt prticles may cause eye injury.

Important

The fuel filter is no longer serviced in regular maintenande intervals. It is only necessary to replace the fuel filter in the case of damage or a clogged filter.

Before replacing a fuel filter it is necessary to relieve fuel system pressure.

Your fuel filter is located under the vehicle, driver side, below seating area, front of fuel tank, mounted on frame rail in fuel line

Fuel filters and elements are serviced by replacement only. Some vehicle manufacturers recommend fuel filter replacement at 30,000 miles (48,000 km). Always replace the fuel filter at the vehicle manufacturer's recommended mileage.

The fuel filter replacement procedure varies depending on the make and year of the vehicle and the type of fuel system. Always follow the filter replacement procedure in the appropriate service manual. The photo sequence below shows a typical procedure for relieving fuel pressure and removing a fuel filter.

fps23-02.jpg Loosen the fuel tank filler cap to relieve any fuel tank vapor pressure.

fps23-03.jpg Wrap a shop towel around the Schrader valve on the fuel rail and remove the dust cap from the valve.

fps23-04.jpg Connect the fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader valve.

fps23-05.jpg Install the free end of the gauge bleed hose into an approved gasoline container, and open the gauge bleed valve to relieve the fuel pressure.

fps23-06.jpg Place the vehicle on the hoist and position the lift arms according to manufacturer's recommendations. Then raise the vehicle.

fps23-07.jpg Flush the fuel filter line connectors with water, and use compressed air to blow debris off and away from the connectors.

fps23-08.jpg Follow the recommended procedures for disconnecting the fuel inlet connector.

Follow the recommended procedures for disconnecting the fuel outlet connector, then remove the fuel filter.

Installing Fuel Filters
In-line fuel filters are installed in the fuel line. In carbureted engines, the in-line gasoline filter is usually installed between the fuel pump and the carburetor. In vehicles with a fuel injection system, the location of the fuel filter is determined by the manufacturer. An arrow on the filter shows the direction of fuel flow.
  • To install a new filter, begin by wiping the male tube ends of the new filter with a clean shop towel.
  • Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends on the filter.
  • Check the quick connectors to be sure the large collar on each connector has rotated back to the original position. The springs must be visible on the inside diameter of each quick connector.
  • Then install the filter in the proper direction and leave the mounting bolt slightly loose.
  • Install the outlet connector onto the filter outlet tube and press the connector firmly in place until the spring snaps into position.
  • Grasp the fuel line and try to pull this line from the filter to be sure the quick connector is locked in place.
  • Then, do the same with the inlet connector.
  • Now tighten the filter retaining bolt to the specified torque.
  • Once everything is connected, lower the vehicle, start the engine, and check for fuel leaks at the filter.
Have fun and all the best

How to get fuel lines off if they have mud in them?

first thing pressure wash all the mud off the fuel filter area and I would try to change the fuel filter first before you go through all the tank cleaning and flushing and use some techron fuel additive to clean your injection system drop the tank remove the pump and replace the screen on the pump take the fuel tank to the radiator shop and have them hot tank it and clean it. use the special tools to release the spring and slide the fuel lines off. Remove the fuel filter then pump non flammable solvent through the line from the tank to the filter then disconnect the fuel lines at the engine and fuel canister. then flush those lines (you can buy a hand siphon pump at autozone) blow the lines out with air. install the tank replace the fuel filter hook up the engine compartment fuel lines you dont have to remove the line
