I know this is a stupid question, but does the engine have oil in it? Hopefully oil filter, drain plug were tightened properly. Hope this helps you, Rick

Oil light comes on, loses power, stalls, restarts but engine very rough, oil level is fine but oil is very hot, smokes

Check for trouble codes. Smoke out where? out the exhaust? Do a compression test to check internal mechanical condition. Low compression would likely mean expensive engine repairs, no easy fixes. If the oil light comes on well before the engine loses power, have the oil pressure tested on a gauge. Low oil pressure could be a bad oil pump, worn crankshaft bearings, or a blockage in the oil passages throughout the engine, or a clogged pick-up tube and screen in the crankcase. How long do you want to keep whipping that achieva, Mark? Might be time to look for another pony !

Check oil light comes on in my 1994 olds achieva

In the oil pan on your car is a sensor that works the ckeck oil light. It is a two wire sensor that just unscrews. It has probably gone out, or hung up. It has a photo cell on it that can go out. If you replace it you might want to wait till your next oil change because you will lose all your oil. Good Luck

1996 olds achieva check engine light remains on. Already replaced both oxygen censors and catalytic converter but the light remains on. Scan tool was placed on the o2 censors but it show "no activity".

What were the codes???
Try this, turn the ignition key to the on position and pull the ECM fuse out for 10 seconds, then place it back in and start the car.
The car may stall and let it, just restart it the second time and things should be fine. It's just the ECM leaning the Engine and Transmission.
The check engine light should be off and go for a test drive. If there is a problem the check engine light will go back on after you travel over i believe 5 MPH.
Re scan and replace or repair fault in drive train  system.

Engine light stays on a 97 olds achieva sl

Engine light stays on, low coolant light stays on , recently had a plastic housing replaced that was leaking, it was linked to thermostat, tranmission coolant, heater ect. Had the thermostat replaced also. Level of coolant is fine, does't overheat anymore, but now the starter wants to spin a couple of times and then it starts. The car has no rust, would like to hang on to it
