Question about 1998 Jeep Cherokee
Jeep cherokee Limited 4x4-4 door 1999. My electric door lock (and window) doesn't work on my drivers back door. I can't open the door anymore. I'm trying to open the door panel from inside. I unscrewed the 3 screws but the panel seems still quite tight. Where do I start to take it off, without breaking anything?
I have been working on cars for many years and, the first thing i do when getting a new car (new to me) is to go to the auto parts store and get a Haynes repair manual for it....they take the car completly apart and put it back together and give detailed instructions on how to do it yourself..
aside from that, you can take out all the screws you can find holding the panel on then the panel should be held on but a series of push-lock type pins....insert a large flat screwdriver between the panel and door and try to figure out exacty where those pins are. DONOT pry too hard as the panel is like a cardboard composite that can rip...when you find where a pin is, try to get as close to it as possible to aviod ripping the panel. Of course once you get the first pin dislocated it is easier to locate the others...
IMPORTANT...when you get the panel off, there should be a piece of plastic over the door held in place with a tar like glue....remove this carefully as this keeps air and moisture from getting in your car.
Your door locks should be accessable then.
Again I suggest getting the Haynes manual they are about $15 and will save you alot in the long run
good luck...post a follow up comment if you run into any snags
