Fuel Pump My 1991 Pontiac Transport broke down the other day and my dad thinks its the fuel pump because no fuel is getting to the engine so he was wondering how could he get to the fuel pump without droping the gas tank, and if there was a possible way to get to it thru the top of the engine.

You dad may be right... turn on the key and go to the rear of the car and listen for the hum of the fuel pump. basically you have no choice but to drop the tank unless you feel there is enough clearance to do it without.... but in the long run... dropping the tank will save you alot of headaches.

Installed new fuel pump to 1998 pontiac transport and engine still not getting fuel

The security system would not affect the pump.
The anti-theft pass-key system disables the starter and the injectors.
If the pump has no voltage check the pump relay.

Sounds like your not getting enough fuel from a bad fuel pump. As the pump heats up it stops sending the proper PSI of fuel from the pump to your engine. As it cools down it gets better but quickly returns once the pump heats back up. The only real solution is replacing the pump and fuel filter.
Make sure in the future to keep at least a half a tank of gas in it as the gas cools the pump.

Hope this helps..

Engine/Fuel Pump; Engine sputters when I hit the accelerator.

CHECK THE FUEL FILTER FIRST.IF THE FILTER IS PLUGGED U CAN HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.IF THAT DOES NOT FIX IT U NEED TO CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE.THERE IS A FUEL PRESSURE TEST PORT ON THE FUEL INJECTION RAIL(TOP OF THE ENGINE)THE PRESSURE SHOULD BE 40-47PSI.KEY ON ENGINE OFF.

Engine codes 54 1991sunbird 3.1

I think this code is defined as follows:
Fuel pump circuit fault or Mixture Control (M/C) solenoid fault or Electronic Control Module (ECM) fault/EGR solenoid #2 failure
Check your fuel pump relay as well - this could be the fault in the fuel pump circuit.
Hope this helps, Sherwin

Fuel pump inline fuse for firebird

First clarify stock ELECTRIC fuel pump in tank and you say CARBURATOR. If its not EFI , something is not right. Check for a 20A fuel pump fuse, with a 12V test light. IGN ON The oil pressure switch is on the engine block engine type unknown ). It the engine loses oil pressure (i.e. stalls) the fuel pump will shut off. Hope this helps.

Car stalls out while running

It sounds like it's not getting enough fuel to the engine if it stalls when you let up off the gas pedal but stays running with your foot on the gas it sounds like you need a new fuel pump and or fuel filter for the car.I can almost garantee thats part of the problem
