Possibility that there is a build up of dirt/mud on your rims if you travel off highway especially. remove hub caps, remove wheels and clean with power washer if possible to remove build up, this happens quite often on my vehicles.

Sounds like your wheels are out of balance, you may have lost a wheel weight, causing the wheel to be out of balance. If you parallel park frequently you may have scrubbed off a wheel weight. check the rims for a dirt shadow of where a weight may have been, but is not any more. if you find this then that would be you offending wheel. If not take it into a tire shop and have the balance checked and completed.

Hope this is of some help.

Your tires need to be spind balance every 20,000 miles. Have it checked.

It can be a number of problems, especially related to the suspension system. Tire out of balance, warped brake rotors, loose suspension piece or steering rack part (hopefully not), and so forth. I would start with the wheel and tire combination as it's the easiest and cheapest to fix. have them checked at the tire place (or do it yourself if you have the equipment) then I would check the rotors, brakes and suspension components like the bushings, attaching bolts and so forth. Hope this helps you, Rick

What can cause a Jeep's steeling wheel to shake at 45 mph and then the shake to move to seat and console at 55mph?

Many things could be at fault here. Start simple, and have the balance checked on the tires. After that, see if any balance weights have come off the drive shaft.

Right front tire seems to wobble, shaking. Engine area of car shaking over 55. Mech friend says it's the rotor. Worried about driving.

A bad rotor would only cause a shake when you are using the brakes. A bad tire could shake at 55mph and above.
I would get a second opinion to make sure.
The shop could rotate the tires and see if the vibration moves to a different area of the car.

1990 cherokee shakes badly only at 50-55mph

Check the front steering damper. The steering damper is a shock that is mounted horizontaly in the front. The damper is bad if you see oil leaking from it or if the car has high mileage and never been replaced.

My first inclination would be to have tires balanced, unless it started suddenly, or you feel or hear something different in steering.
