Question about 2004 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
I have a 1999 merc estate. On start up the ECU light and the ABS light stay on, the speedo doesnt work and cant change gear (auto box with flicka).
Got another ECU unit that bolts to ABS unit, plugged it in, started vehicle and lights went out, did this a couple of times and it worked. Before having a party to celabrate, we plummed the ECU into the ABS, started the car, lights went out, put vehicle into reverse and lights came back on......party cancelled.....
Went back to the chap that supplied ECU and he confirmed that it was working on his vehicle before it was removed.
Disconnected battery, re-installed original ECU tried it. lights on, no speedo and would only work in first and reverse. Disconnected battery again, put 2nd ECU back on car, cleaned all contacts, lights on but speedo working so gave it a run. 2 miles down the road lights came back on, another two miles and speedo stopped. went to turn vehicle around, put into reverse and lost all gears. turned engine off, restarted and got reverse, turned around, started going forward, no speedo, so stuck in first. turned engine off, removed key, restarted, lights still on but speedo working, got to second gear before speedo stopped and drove home in second.
Vehicle now parked up, battery disconnected and i'm off to the pub in disgust.........
CAN ANYBODY HELP.... I feel that the problem is caused by a sensor not the ECU, or am I wrong......

SOURCE: car problems
Sounds to be a loose or corroded wire/s at either starter motor or at battery fusible links.
Also check the earth strap (Cable) between engine and bodywork.
Hope this helps, MMP

for the 220cdi,it is a 611.961 motor, you have to refill 6.5 liter, included the olilfilter.Whenyou have refill, and after the motor has running, you can check the oil-level in the board-computer.

You need to get the codes read as there are so many possibilities, best to use dealer level diagnostic equipment.
