If your vehicle is a stick shift, likely it's the master cylinder for the clutch. stick your finger in there and see if it smells and feels the same as what's in the brake master. If it appears low, check where the clutch rod goes into it in the drivers side of the firewall. If you find some fluid there its leaking. (also check line and slave cylinder that works the clutch) Could also be steering fluid but I've never seen them put that there.

Is it a standard transmission. If it is it's the reservoir for your hydraulic clutch. It uses brake fluid.

Is it dangerous that my car 1989 olds calais 2.5 is leaking water from the over flow hose

this is normal only if the coolant reservoir has been overfilled recently, there should be a "max" and "min" level on the side of the reservoir and has to be kept in between these marks.
my concern is that if it needs to be topped up often that indicates a leak either externally or internally,
any signs of fluids on the ground,or a sweet smell in the vehicle?under the hood is there any signs of a white or pinkish powdery substance around hoses, engine components, take a good visual looking for these telltale signs.
remove the reservoir cap,top up fluid to the max if cold, min if hot, start the engine, can you see if there are bubbles forming?if so,internal engine leak, head gasket, cracked head, block ect..
i like to perform a coolant pressure test, its a pump that is connected to the reservoir, the pump is then manually pressurizing the cooling system to a max of 12-15 lbs and should hold and maintain this pressure for about 10 min.if it drops below this within 10 min, there is a leak,re pressurize the system to 12-15 lbs(as indicated on reservoir cap) and now start looking for the source of the leak.
good luck, hope this helps

How to change the fluid of the power steering ?

Open the engine hood.

There will be several fluid reservoirs under the bonnet. If the car / truck has power steering, one of them will hold about 150-300ml of fluid that should be a red color. If you put some on your hand it is very slippery.

The other reservoirs will hold water for the windscreen washer, and one connected to the radiator to hold coolant.

Check that the reservoir you intend to put the power steering fliud in is not connected to the radiator and does not contain water.

Take the cap off to check.

If you can't see in to the bottom, roll up some kitchen paper towel and feed that in until you get some fluid on it - red, you hope!

There will be marks (horizontal lines) on the side of the reservoir showing "Min" (minimum) and "Max" (maximum or full). Slowly pour in replavcement fliud until the tiop of the fluid is between the marks.. Put the cap back on, close the engine hood, drive for a short distance (2 km?) and check the levels again.

Top up the reservoir to just under "Max". Replace the cap.

Check the level after a short period of normal driving - a couple of weeks, If it is still going down a mechanic needs to check the power steering seals.

good luck.

Break light coming on dash. Goes off and on. Is it safe to drive? What do I check for under the hood? and where?

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

We are sorry that you are having issues with your Toyota.

What you are describing, the brake light illuminating on and off may be due to s low brake fluid condition in the brake master cylinder reservoir.

There is a sensor in the master cylinder that monitors the quantity of the brake fluid present. As the brakes wear, the fluid level drops proportionately.

What you can do:
Open the hood, and closely examine the fluid level in the plastic reservoir on the brake master cylinder. It is located at the engine side of the firewall, pretty much in line with your turn signal switch. Look at the side of the cylinder reservoir. There will be a "MAX" line, and a "MIN" line.
The Max is the proper fill level.

If the fluid level is close to the Min line, you probably need some front brake pads replaced.
This indicates a low fluid condition in the reservoir.

We would not suggest 'topping off' the fluid, just to extinguish the light. When you do get your brake pads replaced, the extra fluid will be forced out of the top of the reservoir, and the brake fluid will get on the paint under your hood. Brake fluid will damage your paint.

Suggestion: Get the front brake pads checked, replace them if they are worn.

Thanks for choosing FixYa today.

Where do i add the manual clutch fluid? on a 2008 accent?

hi from uk if it is same as earlier models ? then the clutch fluid comes from the brakefluid reservoir too if you look you will/should see a seperate hose leading to clutch master cyl the actual reservoir is divided inside compartment for brake and the other for clutch so if clutch fluid leaks it does not affect the other chamber that feeds brake master cyl so same fluid for both systems just fill to level mark on reservoir

How to tell if radiator tank is full up on accord 2000

You have what is called a coolant reservoir (big nylon bottle with a cap that is connected by a small hose from the top of your radiator, just under the cap) that operates in conjunction with your radiator. It has marks on it for MAX and MIN. If the water level in that reservoir is between those marks, you engine fluid level is okay. If it is not between those marks (near MIN when the engine is cold; near MAX when the engine is hot) add water until that is the case.
Hope this helps you.

How do you bleed the Rack and Pinion for a 99 Hyundai Accent?

hi from uk if you are referring to power steering ? you do not bleed as you do brakes you preferably rais front wheels off ground then ensure vehicle supported then with engine running and the p/steer reservoir kept to full turn the steering from left to right fully for a few times this ensures any air in system is expelled from rack and hydraulic lines back to reservoir and out keep oil level check so level does not fall low as to air induction into system then lower car and check p/steer operation hope this helps ps make final check for any leaks for a couple of days as a precaution ?
