Question about 1995 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

I have a 1995 Toyota Camry with 203k miles. The Engine light came on a couple of days ago. I took it to the dealer and they say that I need the following done. 1) EGR valve clean out 2) Intake Boot They want to charge $800.00 to do this work. From what I read normally EGR valves do not go bad. Can I possible clean out the carbon to first test to see if this is the problem? Also, can I test to see if the EGR ValVe is bad. And not the big question do you have a guide that can guide me through the testing and the cleaning of the EGR valve.

I have a 1995 Toyota camry with 144,000 miles on it. I don't know what is wrong with the transmission, but it will not shift, and i can't go faster than 35mph. The check engine light is not on

I think either the throttle position sensor on the throttle body or the shift valve in the transmission has a fault. It could also be a failure of the direct clutch in the trans.
The check engine light will not notify you of a trans problem. Instead the O/D Off light blinks. This light is not normally on, so you should check to see if the globe is OK by looking for it when turning on the ignition and starting the engine, and then by turning the O/D on and off at the gear shift lever. If you never see the light, the globe has failed.

It does sound as though you need an opinion from a trans specialist, but get 3 different ones, because some of them tell porkies.

Brake light on dash won't turn off.

I just had my brakes done (all 4 rotors replaced and brake shoes) on my 99 Camry, and when I took it for a test drive, the Brake light was on. The way I got rid of it was by disconnecting the battery for a minute or 2. It reset whatever was causing it to stay on.

Hope this helps.

1997 Toyota Camry with second round of engine sludge

The best way to solve the sludge problem is to drive the car! If you drive a few miles then shut it off that advances sludge issues. Make sure you get it fully warmed up. Toyota sent me the notice on the sludge issue in 1998. I have 327,000 miles on my Camry now. When I drive it I get it fully warmed up, and most days I put on at least 20 miles. I change oil every 4-5000 miles. These are great cars.
I never changed any of the common parts that fail on most American cars before 100,00 miles. Such as O2 sensors, alternator, starter, cv joints, all original still.
