Golf MK4 Handbrake blocking

Hello I have a mk4 golf (year 2001) and I have problems with the handbrake When I pull up the handbrake it stops the wheels from moving but when i let the handbrake down it still holds the wheels, I mean that it blocks the wheels. I would be grateful for some help Thank You

Seems like your rear brakes are staying stuck in locked position when you release the E-brake. Try to adjust the e-brake from under the car first. If that does not work then remove the rear drum, and there is a adjustment bolts. Turn it a few turns put back on the drum and try again.

No just the ABS will not work but then when i was young cars never had this as they still had cable brakes so one adjust ones driving to compensate ,ie go slower and be carefull in wet or icey conditions and if the time comes for a emergency stop yank the handbrake on and punmp the brakes ,simple

How to make handbrake adjustment


Remove the cover off the handbrake pull handbrake up and down and you see the cables with one or two screws and nut Release hand brake hold with players one end tide the nuts even and pull hand brake and count one, two, three ,or four clicks stop on three or fourth jack the car on the back and check your wheels to feel free to move .

Why wont my mk4 vw golf go into 3rd 4th and 5th gear, but will go into 1st 2nd and reverse?


hiya all can any1 help ive had a new master cylinder and slave because the car would not go into gear. problem not solved. took the clutch apart foubd out that the pressure plate is pused out with a long steel rod and it pushed out the nipple part in the middle of it. same happend with the new 1 it was only in there for 3 weeks what would cause that to happen again carnt figure it out any ideas guys vw golf t reg mk4 sdi 1.9

I think i have jammed my starter motor but dont know where to find it to try and hammer it out. please help. i have a golf tdi mk4. i will need it explaining in very simple terms. a picture would be good....

Have you tried putting the car i gear handbrake off and rock the car back and forward? this usually frees the starter... hitting with a hammer can damge casings etc...

yes, no problem.....use the whole transmision/electrics/computer systems,you may also need to use the suspension/brakes.for ride and stopping power, but thats optional.....

sounds like a bad body ground look for a ground wire from the motor to body remove and clean threads clean ground small wire that comes off big ground at batt also let me know ok tell fixya bout me

ive bought a cat back scorpion exhaust for my mk4 2.0 golf gti the problem is its banging off the bottom off the car witch is doing my nut in i bought a 4motion rear valance for the cut out for the tail pipe witch was a waist of time as the exhaust is no where near the cut out as it will not go any higher because its already hitting the body does any one else have this problem your advice on this would be helpfull thanks
