Changing the starter in a 1994 Toyota Corrolla

I have located the starter, which is not easily accessible and would like to know if it is best to work from the top of the motor or underneath the car or both. Disconnection of the battery cable and disconnection of the solenoid wires are not really apparent in the Haynes manual I have. Can you enlighten me? Thanks
Doug

You need to remove one bolt from the top and the other from the bottem. also the wires are removed from the bottem. most likey the starter if factory is still good the starter contacts wear out they are under the cover on the back of the starter.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 1994 toyota pickup?

Not sure what engine you have, but on the 22R or 22RE (2.4 liter four cylinder) It's on the right side (passenger) lower engine just above the oil pan, and in front of the starter motor. You go through the inner wheel well just above the right front wheel. There is an access panel.

94 toy corrolla air bag light is on

Most likely, you have either a bad center air-bag computer, or contamination on the wiring connections of the center air bag computer.

This unit resides under the center console, behind the shifter. If beverages spill in this area, the wire connector could get compromised, and stop the computer from working properly. Toyota has issued a recall regarding this issue, you best bet is to contact a dealer, and have it checked out.

94 toyota carolla starter clicks eventualy starts

You have two options: replace the starter (easiest, but most expensive), or replace the contacts (cheaper, but more work involved).
In any case, you have to remove the starter. Disconnect the battery BEFORE you start. Locate the starter and remove the wires going to it. The starter is held onto the transmission with 2 large bolts. Remove both, and slide the starter out.

If you want to change the contacts, observe the starter, locate a metal plate held on with 3 bolts. Remove the bolts and the plate. You will now see a plunger, and 2 copper colored contacts. Those are what needs to be replaced. Changing the contacts is easy, just do one at a time, and ensure that all insulators are installed properly on reassembly.
