A nickel fell into the gear shift - 2009 Subaru Legacy

old post, , M/t box. (built many)
jumps out of 1st gear.
bad shift linkage.? ever try shift it with no shift lever. to prove that? (ask)
bad 1'st gear dogs. !
bad bearing near 1st gear, causing it to bounce and jump out.
bad synchro, blocker, hub that dogs to 1st.
shift rail dentent balls failing , springs on balls, or plug fell out.

the blocker and dogs, hold the gear,
the box is constant mesh box, so gears never shift.
on the dogs lock up . (and effects a shift)
if you need a photo of that action or video that too is easy.

1st gear has the gross effect of putting huge gear spreading actions
from top 1st gear to bottom cluster, they want to spread.
so any bearings that can allow that, there, will cause 1st to fail.
easy.

Look at the tube the shifter goes into, is there a pin in a hole there? If not find it and reinstall the pin that retains the shift arm to the steering column barrel.

sounds like my problem. its just tthat plastic button that comes out so you have to find where it fell and put back in again. can replace the whole handle.

I have an 01 Celica and everyone told me to shift at 2500-3000 but I fell like I get a smother shift at 3500-4000 idk why tho...

try reseting the indent cable (by phusing throttle with hand and pushing indent button) that is on cable.

If it is an automatic transmission sounds like shifter cable broke or fell off. If it is a standard transmission,depending on manufacturer cable broke or fell off or linkage broke or fell off.

the gear shift lenkage has fell to bits or is jamed,,, look on the gear box first,,, the button you press in to let you come out of park could have jamed up

my 1995 vista gearbox is (Low) gear is constantly on and gears are not shifting was could be the solution

the hex head bolt is loose or fell out on your carpet driver side flor
