I can not place my truck in to parking. When I try to shift to parking it jams. It will only move to Reverse, Neutral and drive. What is the reason?

  1. Check under the dash above the steering column you should follow the cable coming from the firewall to the steering column, check the cable bracket, it might be broke.
  2. I had to replace one for that reason.
  3. Its not too hard to replace or adjust, its is also best to do on a lift.

Stuck in park while truck is still running 1998 Lincoln Navigator

Are your brake lights working?
If not, replace the fuse. Still not working? Replace the brake light switch. (Your brake light switch also releases the lock for the gear shift).
If your brake lights are working, are you hearing a soft "click" at the gear shift when you depress the brake? If not, check the lock solenoid at the gear shift lever.
There is also a slight possibility that your park pin is jammed. If you're parked on a hill, it's likely. Have someone push the car back and forth as you try to take it out of park... JUST DON'T RUN THEM OVER. :)

How do I put my Lincoln navigator into reverse if my car won't start?

is the battery totally dead if it is you will not be able to take it out of park because you need electric power. if you have power then you should be able to move the shift selector if you hold on the brake and turn on the key. but if just want to move it u will need to put in neutral.

2005 Navigator cant get it out of park? Button on side of gear shift wont budge when I push it in to try to reverse or drive

Does the brake lights work? If so try turning key forward just a little but not so far as to turn on lights, Try to move shifter then, If it moves? The shift interlock has malfunctioned, You can use that procedure to drive the vehical, Just do that and put in neutral and start the select your gearing, That way you dont have to tow it to a repair shop.. If the brake lights do not work? Check the fuse to it, If its good replace the brake light switch

Gear are not going into right place. I drove

Sounds like you need a new shift cable. That go from shifter down to transmission.

Shift jammed when trying to place in parking

You may need a new automatic clutch or new transmission. This occurs often in Fords, mostly because people get lazy when shift gears and do not fully disengage gears, but rather pull up and down. See your mechanic.

My 2003 lincoln navigator

A safety feature on your car is that it will not shift out of "park" if you are not applying the brakes . Make sure your doing that while trying to shift out of park .
