No on something that old... as long as your Carb is tuned right... your emissions will stay down and you will likely see some better performance!

Any auto parts store can get the kit for you. The carb should have a metal service tag attached to one of the screws on top or side. You'll need the numbers on this tag to get the correct carb kit. If no tag is found then look for numbers either stamped or cast into carb, probably on bowl or on top.

With an '84, it's likely that you can make this conversion, providing it is within your state inspection allowable mods, otherwise you can't. Most header manufacturers make a complete system front to back...follow their advertized pipe diameters if you want to make your own. When adding headers, don't expect a huge performance or mileage gain... This can be obtained by careful research and matching a total system including carb/FI, manifold and camshaft changes. In "fine tuning" and proper matching of these items, you can get the best performance possible. Aside from that, a normally aspirated smallblock chevy will usually respond best to a 1 7/8" header tube diameter W@ith a 3" or slightly larger collector, unless you are using a really radical cam and huge carb & intake.
Good luck with your project!!!

Yes, you have to order the same size. You also need a coupler that joins the pipe to the Cat.

1984 chevy s10 exhaust

No, 2 pipes the same size will not go together. You will need to probably buy an adapter. Lets say you have a pipe 2 1/4 outer diameter "od" " that is measuring from the out side edges across the pipe, you will need a pipe with an inside diameter "id" of 2 1/4 . you get that measurement buy measuring the inside of the pipe. so a pipe with a 2 1/4 od will fit a pipe with 2 1/4 id. .. hope that helps

Best thing to do is take a piece of pipe from the truck and take the cat to the auto parts store and get all the adapters that way. That way you know for sure you got all the right parts.

I suggest using a factory cat with a y-pipe behind the cat to your dual exhaust. LMC Truck makes a great bolt on duel exhaust with resonators. Easy to install and great sound.

you can do it without weldind. If the old one is welded on then you will have to get another pipe to extend the pipe or get a cat long enoungh to fit the space than muffler clapit in place.

You can safely remove the convertor as you asked but depending on your location your vehicle may not pass a safety or emissions inspection.
