Question about Oldsmobile 88

1 Answer

I have 92 Old 88 royal it is shutting down while driving. sometimes it will start up again sometimes I'll have to wait. seems like it does it when the temp gets about 200. The car doesn't seem to be getting hot .I've been told possibly fuel pump, ignition relay or temp sensor. Any ideas? Also does anyone know how to pull the codes using a paper clip? thanks!

Poss crank sensor or ignition mod.
Dont remember which terms to cross with the paper clip... been awhile!

Depending on where you are located... alot of shops do a cheap test or even free to throw the comp on!

My 92 olds 88 royale will go for a few minutes then just die and sometimes wont start back for hours!!

check your wiring harness that plugs into the coil pack and see if the wires are melted or showing. i have a 92 and the wires melted together and it was doing the same thing and it also could be your coilpack or your ignition control module (icm)

My 92 88 royal osmobile security light came on and tried both keys wont start dont have alot of money or a dealership in my area what is the best way and cheapest way 2 by pass it

Disconnect the positive termanl on the battery for about 3 min. reconect the battery the computer should be reset. Drive the car for about 30 min. if it takes that long to get to the inspection station then drive there and it should pass as long as the light hasn't come on prior to arriving at inspection station.if so see how long it takes for light to come on go about that far away from inspection station disconnect battery and try again.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter, what you have described is low fuel pressure due to restricted fuel flow from a dirty fuel filter.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck
