Hyundai Excel 97 will not start, cranks well.

Fault seems intermittent, and returned after months of running well. Checked the spark: no spark , all wiring looks OK externally, no loose contacts. i have the same problem but i also lost gears and have to clutch start my car

Mine is a 1997 as per the plate on the firewall

The same as shown above but I don't know what he means by lost gears.

ECU controlled to 2 ciol packs supplying 2 plugs each

Mine cranks well but there just no spark so it will not start.

Have just been advised it happened the other day and the battery terminal was found to be loose. All tight now and have left the battery disconnected for a time to reset anything if possible.

    Still will not start.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you sure it's a 1997 hyundai excel? I personally don't find anything that shows they made a excel in 1997.

May be crank angle sensor or cam angle sensor, or even fuel pump.

I finally traced my similar problem to a broken wire into the plug going to the crank angle sensor which on this animal is located at the front of the motor on the right hand side when looking at the motor from the front. It is just below the clutch slave cylinder and is held in place by a 10mm headed bolt or phillips head (posi drive) bolt.
Good place to start.

Does your car have an electronic distributor or a contact point system? If it's electronic. proably the igniter inside the distributor is gone. Let us know how you get on. Cheers.

My 1990 hyundai excel......

It sound like you have an injector problem. the injectors may not be giving the engine enopuph gas to run. so the engine will stall. the fuel pump with shut down as a saftey measure.
have you injectors cleaned and checked for consitancy.

Hyundai Excel X3 / Accent X3 has trouble starting, a lot of vibrating and shaking.

This is starting to sound very much like a blocked catalytic converter on the exhaust system. Try unbolting the exhaust in front of the catalytic unit and see if it will start and run normally. If it does then the unit needs replacing, if not then thats me tapped out for ideas.

Hyundai 2001 accent wont start intermittently. Replaced cam & crank sensors still no spark.Could it be key code sensor or wont engine crank if thats not right? Any other tips???

I'd check the key at the dealership. The battery may be flat in it. Also have the key code match to the CPU checked. The security may be the problem or it may be an electical fault such as sticky starter motor brushes or a dead segment in the starter motor amature.

96 model hyundai excel stalls while driving my 97 hyundai is stalling after driving for 10 min ive changed the coil spark plug leads and plugs the fuel pump still work ive pulled it out and tested it...

we had a hyundai once, that stopped and started for no apparent reason , after much looking at and mechanics it turned out to be some butterfly or non return valves leading from the fuel pump to the engine. they were closing up and stopping fuel from passing through , might be the same kind of thing . hope this helps
