I think my starter needs repare.

It means you need to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . You have know idea how complex the electronics are on your vehicle are . So before you short something out an make thing's worse . If it shuts off after 4 seconds it's a anti-theft problem . Take an have full vehicle scan done , Knowing how the start system works is the way to a fix . Turning the key to start send a voltage input to the BCM ,the BCM sends a message over the GMLAN serial data network to the PCM / ECM - engine computer requesting start , the PCM / ECM will then energize the starter relay sending battery voltage to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . The PCM / ECM isn't receiving a message from the BCM telling it to enable the fuel injectors . anti-theft system code ok

If the engine is cranking properly, then the problem either has to be in ignition or fuel delivery systems. And if you have an automatic, you might want to check the neutral safety switch for proper operation. And do not ignore the ignition switch.

Burnt smell after starting 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. Turned key starter turned over slowly then started drove car however strong electrical burning smell after starting pulled over seen smoke coming from under vehicle. Car wouldn't start even with a jump starter just clicking sound then nothing while horrible smell of burnt electrical from under the hood. Towed it home it just clicked once. Lights, horn, flashers dash and power locks all working fine never had any problems. Thoughts starter or ??

just chiming in even though this is years old because i didnt see this answer. Theres a video on youtube and many equinox owners saying this worked.... clean the throttle body!

This sounds like your cooling fan is not running. If you were to stop too long with with the engine idling it would overheat the engine. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is a very serious issue. I can have a number of causes, like bad cooling motor, bad wiring or conectors, bad relay, open fuse, etc. Please have it diagnosed and repared before it overheats the engine and possibly damages the engine. If you are stopped in trafic you can place the transmission in neutral and shut off the engine. When trafic restarts you can restart the engine and place the transmission in drive again and continue. Hello: You may have a cooling fan(s) problem. Start the truck, turn the a/c on max, both fan and a/c control. Open hood the cooling fan(s) should be running. If not then you will need hands on trouble shooting. It could be fan(s) motor(s), relays, relay control, ie PCM, wiring, fuse etc. Systematic hands 0n trouble shooting will be needed with a upscale scan tool.

I have an 05 equinox had same problem with driver window,ended up finding broken wires in rubber boot between door and jamb,pieced out broken wires,problem solved....

I have a 2005 chevy equinox and when i turn the key, everything comes on when i turn the key but the car will not start however my boyfriend goes under the car ith a screw driver and does something with the cylinoid and some other part and then it starts right up. Would this be an ignition switch issue?

The 23 should work on the drivers side but you will need a 19" on the passenger side.
