Question about 2005 Chevrolet Impala
I had the same problem. A penny got into the console, and jammed the linkage to go into park. after the penny was removed, it was fine.

It could be a couple of things. The first thing i would check is to make sure the brake lights work. The shift interlock requires a signal from the brake light switch to allow the shifter to move. If the switch dosn't work the shifter will be stuck in park.
There should be an shift interlock override somewhere near the shifter for situations such as this. Look in your owners manual for a more detailed location and instructions on using the override.
