Question about 1993 GMC Jimmy

Was told that intake gasket was installed backwards causing my engine to not have oil pressure. I have yet to figure out how the intake gasket would cause the engine to loose oil pressure. acerview

I can not remember when they started putting extended life anti-freeze in, but the orange color anti-freeze will turn brown and sludge after awhile. The first thing is the coolant leak, 3.1l engines had a intake gasket problem, they were made of plastic with a seal in the middle. The plastic would become brittle and crack causing the coolant to leak externally and also internally. One way to check this is to look in the front and rear area of the intake were it meets the head and you should see some dried coolant. The other is for internal leak and you will need a coolant pressure tester with coolant system full. Install pressure tester on to radiator fill and leave it on at the pressure the cap says (any wheres from 10-16 psi.) for a while and watch gauge for any pressure loss, check for any hoses for leaks, if you do loss pressure with no hose leaks check around intake area for new wet spots, if none here is the problem. The car will have to sit for a day or two to give the coolant time to settle to the bottom of the oil. When you remove the oil drain plug the coolant will come out first then the oil. This also can be done with no engine oil in the pan and plug out, just remember not to start the engine. If coolant has been getting into engine for a long while it will ruin the engine bearings, including the cam bearings, which will cause running problems. Now as for head gasket blown, use the pressure tester to check this. Install pressure tester onto radiator fill ( do not pump pressure into radiator) have someone start engine and watch pressure gauge it will jump up the pressure very quickly. Anytime you have coolant in the oil and it's not the oil cooler it means the engine must be disassembled to locate the failure. The next options are not so pretty. There are three remaining causes for coolant in the motor oil and all require engine dis-assembly. This can be tricky because the repair overlaps and it is difficult to tell which one is causing the problem. For example: A repair shop has told you the cylinder head is cracked, and as they start dis-assembly they can discover it was the intake manifold gasket that has failed. It's up to the honesty of the repair shop to inform the customer that the cost of the repair will be less. Or the opposite can happen, example: A repair shop has told your engine has a blown head gasket, once the dis-assembly is complete they inform you the head gasket is ok, and the cylinder has been pressure checked and is ok. This only leaves the engine block as the failure and must be replaced to repair the problem, and that can be very costly. Always check the intake gasket first on V6, V8 and V10 engines. Then the cylinder head gaskets, cylinder heads and finally the engine block.

HI. If your car is equipped with an engine oil cooler that uses coolant to operate, this would be a good place to start (This is a big issue in some GM vehicals). Sometimes an engine oil cooler can act like a one way valve. When the engine is not running but is still hot the cooling system will have about 15 pounds of residual pressure forcing coolant into the engine. This problem can be repaired by replacing the engine oil cooler. Once the oil cooler has been replaced you must replace the engine oil and filter and recheck for the conditions once more. There are three remaining causes for coolant in the motor oil, and they all require you to dismantle the engine. This can be tricky because the repair overlaps and it is difficult to tell which one is causing the problem. For example: A mechanic has told you that the cylinder head is cracked, or warped, and as they start disassembling, the tech discovers that it is the intake manifold gasket that has failed. It's up to the repair shop to tell the customer that the cost of the repair will be less. Or the opposite can happen, example: A repair shop has discovered that your power plant has a blown head gasket, once the disassembling is complete, they inform you the head gasket is ok, and the cylinder has been pressure checked and is ok. This only leaves the engine block as the failure and must be replaced to repair the problem, and that can be very costly. Always check the intake gasket first on V6, V8 and V10 engines. Anti freeze leaking into oil what could that be


Usually blown head gasket, could be a crack in the cylinder head or block.

Oil transfering into the coolant on a chevy optra. lugs look good, compression is equal on all cylinders.


Probably has a bad head gasket that is leaking between a coolant and oil passage.

I have a 2003 saturn l300 with a v6. I found Oil in the coolant. What could cause this?


ok this is to everyone that has a saturn l3oo. i am currently working on one i have the whole top of the motor apart and the oil cooler has a crack in the tube. u need to get a new cooler or have someone make one for u so u dont have to go to a dealer for a cooler..hope this helps

2003 GMC Sierra Knock sensor and oil pressure??


the knock sensors are located below the intake plenum,or,upper intake manifold as some call it, they screw into the lower intake, the front one is sensor 1, the rear is sensor 2. it is wise to change both if you have some miles.since you are going to be buying a gasket set to do this job.the sensors are cheaper than the gaskets.

No oil to top of engine


this problem is usely caused by the oil pump or bearings.i'm knot sure but i don't think the intake gasket has anything to do with that.if there is some oil holes in the gasket for that it is posible that it was put on backwards. HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
