Question about 1994 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

Engine runs rough

I tried changing the plugs but that did not work. I tried unplugging 1 fuel inj. and it will run a little better but if I plug both of them up it runs like ****. The only way to get it to start is by holding the pedal down to get it started.

there is no check engine light or anything

  • snowman_1972 Apr 18, 2009

the engine is a 5.7 litre

  • snowman_1972 Apr 18, 2009

The only problem now is you have to let the truck warm a few minutes or as soon as you try to give it any gas it stalls, and you have to hold the pedal down to get it started. I was wondering if that is because the sensor is unplugged. Thank you for the help so far.

  • snowman_1972 Apr 20, 2009

I unplugged the temp. sensor and the truck runs better but you have to hold the pedal down to get it started. I have to let it warm up for a couple of minutes or else as soon as you give it any gas it stalls if you let it warm up some it seems to be ok. The temp. sensor is still unplugged because if I plug it back in it runs bad.

  • snowman_1972 Apr 20, 2009

I am also getting a check engine light now but I figured it was because the temp. sensor is unplugged.

  • snowman_1972 Apr 26, 2009

I replaced the temp. sensor and the truck runs great thank you for the advise and help.

Do you have a check engine light. Try unplugging the coolant temp sensor.

If you still have to hold the pedal down then the coolant temp sensor likely isn't the problem, so plug it back in if it didn't help. Does it also stall with the coolant temp sensor unplugged. Do you see any gas dripping from the injectors when you have someone cycle the key but don't crank it?

The coolant temp sensor is fairly inexpensive. Just replace it and see what happens. You are right about the CE light, after you replace the temp sensor, unhook the battery to clear the code for the temp sensor.

    Have you checked fuel pressure?

Glad I could help. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to diagnose this stuff without looking at the vehicle.

Why does my 89 pontiac 6000le idle slightly rough after having the fuel injectors replaced? The reason I had to have them replaced was because of the ethanol in todays fuel ruined the original fuel in

If it is idling like it was before the inj were replaced then you have fixed the wrong problem the ethonol doesn't damage injectors you probably have a spark plug wire that is bad or a coilpack is bad or you have a fouled spark plug? A compression test can tell you of any problems with the valves! The injectors are designed to be compatible with flamible liquids ie gasoline or alcohol! I have been a mechanic for 23 years and have never seen inj fail due to alcohol in today's gasolines! You might have been scammed? Anytime you have repairs done request your old parts to be returned to you! You might have to take the mechanic who claimed he replaced your inj to small claims court! Try replacing the plug wires and the spark plugs first if no change then get carburetor cleaner and with the engine running spray the inside of the throttle body where it is black with the throttle open and engine rpms increased if that doesn't change it the coil packs might be going bad there are three so buy all three as a set so you don't have to change them at different intervals! Depending on mileage the timing belt is reccommended to be changed at 150,000 miles the spark plugs are due at 100,000 the coil packs should last over 200,000 miles so I'm guessing it is time for major preventative maintenance? The timing belt being worn can cause rough idle too!

Firing order for a 1999 nisson quest van

Believe it or not the firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6 The cylinder locations are 2-4-6 in front by radiator, and 1-3-5 against the firewall. If you have a misfire on a certain cyl. and you've replaced the plugs, wires and cap and rotor, you probably have a fuel injector that's dead or plugged,it's common on Quests. Figure out which cyl. is misfiring and unplug the fuel inj. conn. with the engine running and listen for a change in RPMs. If there is no change then replace the injector.

1998 ranger 2.5 manual enging miss

ck for leak at intake. if no leak pcm/ecm may be sending fire command to slow to # 1 . the fuel injector is always hot the ecm sends a ground to the injector. even new parts can be bad ck inj, with ohm meter resistance should be the same between each inj. im not sure of the specifications but they should read the same my jimmy specs are 1.9-2.1 any other reading is bad . no resistance or lower or higher readings my injector would be bad. 140 is good reading, timing can be off a little and still run but rough like a miss. a code wont set most misfires will set a dtc or flash the engine light to let you know damage to cat system is happening , to much fuel a system rich,to little a lean. a bad mass airflow meter can also cause a misfiring or rough idle ck with scanner if dirty clean with brake cleaner first before replacing . hope this helps some let me know how it goes.

Start up 1997 ford f150 4.6 liter runs rough and misses out, then oil gauge goes haywire. When it runs down then road after 10 minutes are so it then drives ok.

OK, if it is running rough, does the engine computer record any misfires on any specific cylinders? If so, then start changing parts in that area such as plug wires, plugs, and fuel inj. if this applies.

Hope this helps.

Not running on 4 cylinders . changed coil pack injectors new leads unplug tps sounds a little bit better plug back in an runs very rough

Check each cylinder using a timing light.
Check each cylinder using a noid test tool
If the light flashes while the engine is runing the spark to the cylinder is good.
If the noid lights up while the engine is running the fuel injectors are good.

Car idles rough in park also runs rough in overdrive

Sometimes a rough idle like that is a fuel filter. As you've already done the plugs and wires the fuel filter would be my next bet.

ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES

possibly have two plug wires crossed or a bad injector. when running engine unplug 1 injector at a time until you find the one that is not hitting. remember to unplug the iac so engine doesnt rev. when found injector use test lite across wires and run. if light flashes then bad injector. if light stays on or no light then wiring or computer.
