I have a 1992 Ford f-150 XLT 4wd with the 4.9, six cylinder and am not sure of the towing capacity. It is a standard cab with an 8 ft regular bed. It has an E transmision.

If you're looking for a towing rig, I'd try to find one with the 4.9L
straight-six. That thing was a towing beast. Here is some specs I found
on one that was a 1990. As mentioned, axle ratio, transmission etc. will
vary.
Base Number of Cylinders: 6 Base Engine Size: 4.9 liters Horsepower: 145
hp Torque: 265 ft-lbs. Maximum Towing Capacity: 7500 lbs.
It would for short distances but you will notice once you have weight on it that your steering will suffer as well as the brakes as long as it's set up right with trailer brakes and some kind of rear suspension helper(air bags are the best, total adjust ability),also you might want to upgrade the air intake and some other power mods if you are concerned about mpg's then also look at doing a computer upgrade as well. The biggest problem I had with mine was the short wheel base tended to be very squirmy at highway speeds I had to install stabilizer arms for towing, after that I decided to buy a quad cab truck it ended up being cheaper in the long run. Hope this helps.
Do yourself a favor and have the ignition cylinder lock and actuator arm replaced because they are about to break. Usaully the actuator arm breaks, but sometimes the end breaks off the lock cylinder (replace both). Parts are available at auto parts stores. This is common for Ford trucks of that body style. Can't remember the procedure but I believe I pulled the steering wheel to change these. Oh, and the parts are not that expensive and the job does not take long. Don't try to re-wire a red-neck push button start because that is way more work!
a few things you could do would be to turn up the pump, bigger injectors, add a turbo and after cooler, and differents gears in the differentials and/or transmission, rear axle airbags would improve your ride quality too, also i beleive its a 444 cu. in. engine if its an international 7.3( ford 7.3 )
