Question about 2003 Cadillac Escalade

Open Question

Emissionwiz, You responded to my question listed below saying that you solved this problem on your friends car with a kit that plugs into the shock connector and tricks the system into thinking that the factory shocks are connected...no more warning light. I called Checker Auto parts and Napa as you recommended and neither place had any idea of this kind of a plug or kit. Can you please give me the name and number of a place that carries these? ...a manufactuer, or part number...something to help me identify the part. Thanks! emissionwiz Rank: Guru Rating: 89%, 3447 votes Yes they make a kit to defeat the system and use regular shocks, it is just a plug that goes into the old shock connector and makes the system think a shock is hooked up, no light! did it on a friends car. Call NAPA or a good parts store like them for more info. posted by flpeterson on Mar 10, 2009 I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban with 145,000 miles. One of the auto-leveling shocks needed replacing. Since the cost was over $1,200 to replace both rear shocks, I opted to install non-auto-leveling shocks for about $400. Unfortunately I now have the "Service Ride Control" light on all of the time. Is there any way to overide this system so that the light does not come on? I still want the other warning lights to come on if something goes wrong.

Rear shock replacement

I would match the rear shocks, brand & model to
the front & also check over the entire suspension
front & rear

If-- when you say I just replaced & your referring to a repair
shop, then who knows what goes on there

What about worn stabilizer links, there only good for
about 5 years

Try & get a look at any bulletins on anything to do with
your vehicle

Can I change from air shocks to regilar shocks

You want to replace the air ride? I think that car would have air bags and not shocks. I have a friend that has one of those older huge Mercury Cougars and hers has air ride. The pump went bad and as I searched for new pumps I did find a site that sells a kit to replace the air bags with coil springs.

I don't know what the site was anymore but I do know they are out there so doing a web search would not be futile.

How to replace the shocks on my 2002 jeep grand Cherokee??

shocks are easy my friend. make sure you have shocks in the front not struts. a strut will have a spring around the shock with a large steel plate holding the spring to the strut. first off. the car does not have to be lifted to change the rear and if you have shocks on the front as well. just simply remove the lower and upper mounting hardware then change. i can not say enough make sure you have shocks in the front and not struts. struts are a pain and can be very dangerous to replace if you dont have the correct equipment

Is there a heavy duty coil over shock I can use in place of the original rear shocks in my 2002 navigator?

If you mean as a substitute for the Air ride there are conversion kits. Just look in your Browser and search for terms like "Lincoln Air ride conversions", "Rear spring kits for Navigators", and so on.

There are also shocks with Booster springs which can increase load capacity.

In addition, several companies do repair the Rubber bags and you can get what you need from Salvage yards to put your ride back to original shape.

On some of the cars with Air ride, I believe it was $300 minimum for a conversion, for just the coiled shocks, I believe $120 a pair. Anything for a Lincoln Logo you will pay more and often. I have not used any of these kits, so I can not say how good they are or what the Install price is. The Web is the best place to price out these parts.

Mr. emissionwiz, the handy little booklet called the owner's manual is not very helpful!!!!!! I am having the same problem and I consulted said manual and it does not say "accessory power outlets" on the list of fuses. Now, not being an expert like you, I don't know if it is called somethng else or has initials listed or what!!

Clarification request posted by emissionwiz is appropriate to resolve your issue. If you check as he suggested, you shold solve the problem.

The only thing I would add to it, is check the spark plug wire for resistance and ensure is within tolerances. If not, replace the spak plug harness, it wouldn't hurt.....Do you have over 30K miles on those wires???????More??????My wires lasted 100K before I change them for good luck.
