I still do not have a solution for the 1984 BMW 318i.It would'nt start; the engine was turning over but it would'nt start. When I finally got it to start I parked it and it began to leak water/antifreeze from underneath the middle of the car.

You possible have some engine defects that must first be repaired here is the water coming from and you have to carry out a compression test as the cylinder head can be deefective

SOURCE: battery drains in my 1984 BMW 318i

I have the same car I had the same problem. If you have the correct battery for your car with the same problem you have a short or positive ground in your dash/electric fuel pump/fuse box also be carefull of how you take the key from the ignition and if they're old replace them.

SOURCE: Accelerate Problem BMW 1992 318i

a bad camshaft position sensor or a vacuum leak. Most likely sensor. Is your check engine light on? you can test sensors with an ohmmeter to determine if a sensor is good or not. It wouldn't be bad to check and make sure your coil packs aren't bad by checking each plug for spark. You can lay one plug and wire at a time one engine so end probe of plug is fairly next to metal. Have someone crank while you watch for spark.

BMW 318i wont start engine

I would have the battery tested. When they get cold they get weak. Next I would look at the wires on the starter to see if their loose.
