Question about 1990 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

Air condition/heater compressor will not turn off, even when the car is turned off.

How is it fixed? Can one do it themselves or does it have to go to a shop? And if it needs to go to the shop, how much would the average fee be? In other words, what should I expect to have to pay?

    Thanks,

    Bill

If you mean the blower fan motor for the heater and AC then the problem is the fan motors speed control resistor.

YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF. HERE IS A PHOTO AND THE DISCRIPTION OF THE JOB. PLEASE RATE THIS FOR ME, THANKS

Remove the black plactic cover that runs parallel to the rear hood weather strip. You will see several fusable links. The blower motor resistor is located under the links screwed to the top of the blower/evap core housing. It's in the same location as the BCM indicated above. If you have trouble, you can trace the blower wiring harness from the blower motor right to it.

Your cars blower resistor is called a BCM or blower control module which is under the cover shown in the photo. this is be a dealer only part, any GM dealer can get it for you.

When my car turn on start switch...eng running. I don't turn on a/c switch but compressor pully and clutch are running together Is it ok or problems? Car is BMW e90. 323i 2010 year Thank you

Is the heater control in the defrost position? Most cars will automatically turn the air conditioning compressor on when defrost is selected to dehumidify the air being directed on the windshield. This keeps the windshield from fogging up, and helps defog the windshield more quickly if it is already fogged up.

The heater won't turn off even when I turn the air condition on

The heater core valve is not being closed and the hot coolant continues to go into the core. Since the AC evaporator share the same enclosure you are not getting the benefit of cool air. The control that is responsible for changing heat temps is the culprit.

you more than likely have a sciezed air con compressor. most modern cars have climate control which uses air con even when demisting and when engaged the electric clutch tries to engage but the pump itself will not turn, clutch will get red hot and burn your belts

I have a 2001 Cavalier Coupe, I am having problems with the air condition. Freon was added, that evening the air condition started to work. The next day, I turned on the air condition, no cold air. I was...

There is a power distrobution box under the hood containing relays and a few heavy duty fuses.
I'd take the cover off and find the A/C relay usually depicted in the diagram inside the cover.
Start the car, turn the A/C switch on and then under hood at A/C relay give it a light tap with the handle of a screwdriver to see if compressor clutch on compressor "kicks on".
Relay can even be pulled out and put back in to make a better connection.
I'm betting the problem is that relay...or dirty contacts.

Hope this helps...

Compressor turns, holds a charge but does not blow cold air even when I turn on the outside air it blows warm air

OK, this is air-conditioning 1-0-1

You say that i holds a charge, and the compressore turns, but does the comprressor cycle on and off, as this is indicating that there is enough charge, and once there is low pressure detected, it turns the compressor on, and when it reaches a high pressure, the compressor cycles off.

Lastly, when engine running and AC on, if you feel the 2 pipes going in to the firewall, one should be hot, the other should be cold ???...is this happening ???

03 chevy blazer stalls when air is turned on

Well I may need more information, but if something electrical loaded your engine to the point of a stall, i would expect fire soon. So most likely the fan motor is eliminated.

Now the A/C compressor, damaged and refusing to turn may be able to stall an idling engine, with todays cool serpentine belts... (In the olden days a belt would burn through and come off.)

The cheap solution to this condition is to turn off the car, and CAREFULLY unplug the compressor's electrical connection. Securely tie the wires out of the way, and test again...

You may want to consider repairing it, however, because the principle of refrigeration is a KEY COMPONENT to defrost in the winter...

Why? Because everyone knows a car air conditioner pulls moisture out, right? That crystal clear water that leaks out under air conditioned cars....
WELL, in the winter, rainy weather for example, is moisture. ....No remove moisture and no defogg.

1998 Chevy S10 pickup air condition compres is on instead of heat

First be sure that you do not have the controls set to defrost the windows since on just about all vehicles nowadays with the controls set that way the air conditioner will be turned on...even if it is not so warm outside. So...be sure that you do not have any of the controls set to defrost and that the heater is turned all the way on.

It sounds like though that the control for the vents is not operating properly. This is a combination of mechanical movements of the vent flaps and small "air motors" that operate the flaps. These air units are controlled by air vacuum taken from the engine compartment through tiny hoses. If the hoses get cracks, holes or come loose from their fittings then your vents will not move correctly so it is a matter of looking and tracing each one of the hoses to make sure they are fastened correctly, have not come loose and are not cracked or leaking. The problem can even be in the engine compartment where the hose(s) connect to the engine vacuum system...so it will take lots of looking carefully with flashlights etc....good luck.
